Quick was selected in the third round, 72nd overall, by Los Angeles at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Quick is a two-time Vezina Trophy nominee and William M. Jennings Trophy winner and was a silver medalist with the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

He won his first Stanley Cup championship with the Kings on June 11, 2012, and his second in 2014, again with the Kings.

He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, the most recent goaltender to win the award.

Personal life

Quick is married to Jaclyn (née Backman), and they have a daughter and son together. Jaclyn's sister Alicia is the wife of former Buffalo Sabres forward Matt Moulson.

Quick was born in Milford but raised in Hamden, Connecticut, a major hockey town in the northeast and attended Hamden High School until eventually transferring to Avon Old Farms, a preparatory school known for its hockey program. His family still resides in Hamden today. Ray and Mike's Deli, a popular local deli in Hamden, named the "Quickwich" sandwich in Quick's honor after his 2012 Stanley Cup victory.

Jonathan Quick Career

Playing career

Quick was a member of the Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Rangers minor ice hockey team as a youth. He later competed for the Mid Fairfield youth hockey club, which was based out of Darien Ice Rink. During his midget major year, he led his team to victory in a national championship, but he was only once he was able to win a national championship. Sean Backman, John Mori, and Augie DiMarzo, Joey Sides, Joe DeBello, Chris Davis, Cam Atkinson, and others all went on to play competitive hockey.

Quick spent time at Hamden High School in Hamden, Connecticut, before moving to Avon Old Farms, where he was selected to the 2002 New Haven Register All-Area Ice Hockey Team. In the Lou Astorino Ice Arena of Hamden, Quick's number 32 Kings jersey is on display. In his junior and senior seasons, he led Avon Old Farms to two-straight New England Prep Championships. During his senior year, he had nine shutouts.

Quick played for the University of Massachusetts Amherst out of Hockey East (HE). In his first match against Clarkson University as a freshman, he won by a score of 4–2. He appeared in one playoff game as a freshman, where the Minutemen lost 4–1 to Boston University. Quick scored his first goal against Merrimack College on January 6, 2007. The unassisted goal came at 9:31 of the second period, giving the game-winning goal the game-winning goal in the 4–2 victory. While playing for the Minutemen, he helped the team win their first-ever NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship appearance. Quick shut-out Clarkson University defeated him in his first NCAA Tournament game, taking all 33 shots he faced in a 1–0 overtime victory. He appeared in five playoff games and had a 944 save percentage.

Quick got off to a slow start with a shutout in his second game, scoring an empty-net goal against the Pensacola Ice Pilots on October 27, 2007, at 19:25 in the third period.

With the Manchester Monarchs, the Los Angeles Kings' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, we began the 2008–09 season, sharing time with Jonathan Bernier. After goaltender Erik Ersberg sustained a groin injury, he was called up to the Kings on December 16. Quick beat the Buffalo Sabres 8–2 in his first NHL game on December 6, 2007. He defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus on December 23, 2008, his first NHL shutout in his career. During the week ending December 28, he was also named in the NHL's Third Star of the Week Award. Quick defeated the opposition in three games, with both victories coming from shutout, posting a 0.67 goals against average (GAA) and a.958 save percentage. After losing 95 of 100 shots in a three-game road win streak that brought the Kings back to the 2009 playoff picture, he was named First Star of the Week by the NHL on February 9, 2009. He finished the season with a 21-18-2 record and a 0.94% save percentage. On April 17, 2011, against the San Jose Sharks, he stopped all 34 shots for a 4–0 win. He had his first NHL Stanley Cup playoff shutout ever.

Quick was nominated as a Vezina Trophy finalist on April 25, 2012, after the 2011–12 regular season, along with Henrik Lundqvist and Pekka Rinne, the former champions of which eventually received the award. Quick was also named as a member of the 2011-12 NHL second team All-Star. He had ten shutouts (a Kings franchise record), had the NHL's second-lowest GAA (1.95) and had a 35-21-13 final record. Quick gained a lot of buzz in the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, as the eighth-seeded and Presidents' Trophy-winning Vancouver Canucks defeated the top-seeded and President's Trophy-winning Vancouver Canucks in five games, followed by the Kings' first-ever four-game playoff series sweep over the second-seeded St. Louis Blues.

Quick won his 11th consecutive road game dating back to the 2011 playoff season, beating the previous record of ten set by Billy Smith of the New York Islanders and then adding to the record. The streak lasted from April 16, 2011 in San Jose to June 2, 2012 in New Jersey (12 games). For the second time in Los Angeles's 45-year history, as well as the first time since the 1993 playoffs, the city qualified for the Western Conference Finals. After defeating the third-seeded Phoenix Coyotes in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final, the Kings ended its 19-year drought and advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Following the Kings' first Stanley Cup victory over the New Jersey Devils, 6–1, the Conn Smythe Trophy was awarded to Quick, bringing the series of four games to two. Quick had a 1.41 GAA, a.946 save percentage, and three shutouts along the way, making them a 16–4 record.

Quick signed a ten-year deal extension on June 28, 2012, extending until the end of the 2022–23 season.

Quick joined the Manchester Monarchs in November 2012 to start recovering from an off-season back surgery. After the Kings defeated the New York Rangers, Quick earned his second Stanley Cup in his career. He had two playoff shutouts, one in Game 3 of the Finals, as well as a.911 save percentage.

Quick was given the William M. Jennings Trophy annually after the 2013–14 season, with the goalkeeper(s) having played at least 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it. Quick was the sole winner of the award because Ben Scrivens and Martin Jones did not participate in the mandatory number of games to qualify as co-recipients of the competition. Quick had a 27-17–4 record,.915 save percentage, and six shutouts in 49 appearances over the course of the season.

Quick made 43 saves on all 43 shots he faced in a 1–0 shootout victory over the St. Louis Blues on October 16, 2014. It was Quick's highest save percentage in a shootout win to date. Quick beat Rogie Valiant as the Kings' all-time leader in shutouts on October 23, winning his 33rd after a 2–0 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Quick will play 72 games in the 2014–15 season, with 71 of them debuting. Quick will finish with a record of 36–22-13, with a GAA of 2.24 and 6 shutouts. The Kings will advance to the playoffs after losing by two points to the Calgary Flames in the last playoff spot. Since defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0 on March 14, 2016, he now ranks as the all-time leader in shutouts for American born goaltenders.

Jonathan was nominated for the Vezina Trophy, the league's best goalie, for the second time on April 27, 2016.

Quick sustained a lower-body injury in the season's first game against the San Jose Sharks on October 12, 2016. He preferred not to have surgery for the injury. Quick was out for four and a half months (59 games in all) before returning with the team on February 25, 2017 in a 4–1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Quick was invited to the 2018 NHL All-Star Game, but he turned down the opportunity due to a nagging illness. Any player who has been accepted, but declines, is required to miss the next regular season game as a result. He was expected to miss the following regular season game, which was scheduled for January 30, 2018. Quick received his second Jennings Trophy for allowing the fewest goals against all season at the end of the season. Quick helped the Kings prepare for the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs, where they were defeated by the Vegas Golden Knights in four games. Quick was nonetheless impressive, with just 7 goals in the four games against a total of 4.55 percent and a.947 SV %.

In a 4–0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, Quick defeated Mike Richter for first place among American goaltenders in that category on May 8, 2022.

The Stanley Cup Finals will be decided between an underdog Florida Panthers squad and a tenacious Vegas Golden Knights squad

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 3, 2023
Many hockey fans were not expecting a second all-Sun Belt Stanley Cup Final in NHL history. Boston was the best regular season squad in the league's history going into the playoffs. They were knocked out by the worst team that made it in. Canada wished that they would win their first Stanley Cup since 1993. Rather, the Jets were quickly dismissed and the Maple Leafs and Oilers' star power was snuffed out.

Winners and losers of the NHL trade Deadline include Boston, Vancouver, and Colorado

Fans were left with little excitement after a tumultuous week of acquisitions as the NHL Trade Deadline came to a close at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday. Although John Klingberg's trip to Minnesota and the first pair of brothers to trade for each other (Nick Ritchie to Calgary and brother Brett Ritchie went to Arizona), the bulk of the major contracts had been completed in the days leading up to the deadline. Legendary names like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Quick swapped teams, while highly coveted investments like Timo Meier, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Ryan O'Reilly all need to find new real estate.
