Jon Hamm Career

Acting career

Hamm returned to his high school in 1993 to teach eighth-grade acting. Ellie Kemper, a ballet dancer, was one of his students. Hamm appeared in Kemper's Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt years later.

In 1995, Hamm, a teen who did not want to pursue a "normal career," moved to Los Angeles permanently. He moved into a four-some young actors and started working as a waiter while attending auditions. He appeared in theater, including in Flavius in a Shakespeare's Timon of Athens with the Sacred Fools Theater Company.

Despite being marketed by the William Morris Agency, he found it difficult to find jobs as an actor. William Morris dropped him as a client in 1998, after he refused to get any acting work for three years.

He continued to work as a waiter and, for a brief period, worked as a set designer for a softcore pornography film. He made it clear that his 30th birthday would be his deadline to be a Hollywood actor, as has the following:

Hamm was born in 2000 and appeared on NBC's drama series Providence as a romantic firefighter Burt Ridley. His one-episode service grew to 19 and enabled him to leave waiting tables. In Clint Eastwood's adventure film Space Cowboys (2000), he made his debut film appearance with just one line. More substantial roles followed in Jessica Stein's 2001 film Kissing Jessica Stein (2001) and the war film We Were Soldiers (2002), in which he turned 30.

Nate Basso, a police inspector on Lifetime's television show The Division, from 2002 to 2004, his career was boosted by his regular appearance as he was bolstered by his regular appearance as a detective inspector on Lifetime's "The Division." Other minor characters were included in the television series What About Brian, CSI: Miami, Numb3rs, The Unit, and The Sarah Silverman Program. In an interview with Hamm's Mad Men castmate Eric Ladin, he admired Hamm because he was persistent until he became well-known as an actor.

Hamm received his breakthrough role in 2007 after being chosen from a field of over 80 candidates to play Don Draper in AMC's drama series Mad Men. He played a suave, married, philandering executive with an obscure past in the series, which was set in a fictional 1960s Madison Avenue ad agency. "I read the script for Mad Men, and I loved it," he said. I never thought they'd cast me—I mean, they'd cast one of the five guys who look like me but are film stars. He believes that if another network had produced the film, an actor with a "proven track record" would have been selected. He appeared in multiple auditions; each time, he told the casting directors what he could bring to the role if given the opportunity. Matthew Weiner, Alan Taylor's first thought he was "too handsome" for the role, but ultimately decided "it was amazing to cast sort of the perfect male in this role." In addition to Dr. Perpet's backstory, Weiner felt that Hamm suffered early in his parents. Hamm says he portrayed Draper, a well-dressed, influential man of business and society, who is still suffering from widespread internal turmoil and experiencing shifts in the world beyond his influence.

Mad Men debuted on July 19, 2007, with nearly 1.4 million viewers. Hamm received raves from its fans, and it continued to grow. Hamm's portrayal of Dr. Perfection as "a starmaking feat," according to Robert Bianco of USA Today, and The Boston Globe's Matthew Gilbert called Hamm a "brilliant lead."

Hamm received the Golden Globe Award for Outstanding Actor in a Television Series in 2008, as well as the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He was nominated for the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award in the same category in 2009, and he received another Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He received his third Golden Globe Award nomination in 2010. Mad Men's season came to an end on May 17, 2015. After receiving 12 nominations for both acting in and producing the film, Hamm received his first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series on September 20, 2015!

Hamm's next film role was in the 2008 science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still, a reimagination of the classic 1951 film of the same name. It received mixed feedback, but it was financially successful, grossing $230 million worldwide. Hamm appeared on Saturday Night Live, episode 36, number 6, on October 25, 2008, and played Don Draper in two sketches. On January 30, 2010 and October 30, he returned as host once more. Drew Baird, a doctor who is a neighbor and love interest of Liz Lemon, appeared in three episodes of the NBC television sitcom 30 Rock in 2009. He received three nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for these performances.

Hamm's first film role came in 2009, in which he played a detective whose son was missing for eight years. In 2010, he appeared in Shrek Forever After as an ogre chief named Brogan, and in Ben Affleck's crime drama The Town with Ben Affleck, he had a minor voice role. Hamm was delighted that The Town gave him a role that was "the opposite of Don Draper" after getting "about 40 scripts that were all set in the 60s or had me playing advertising guys. It received mostly favorable feedback and made $144 million worldwide.

In the independent film Howl, based on Allen Ginsberg's eponymous 1956 poem, he was his next acting role. In Disney's sports drama Million Dollar Armchair (2014), J.B. Bernstein played sports agent J.B. Bernstein. He appeared in A Young Doctor's Notebook with Daniel Radcliffe, playing an older version of Radcliffe's character from December 2012 to December 2013. He appeared in a special Christmas episode of the British science fiction anthology film "Black Mirror," titled "White Christmas." In 2015, he appeared on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp, among other things. Herb Overkill's voice was featured in the animated comedy Minions. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a huge success, grossing over $1 billion around the world.

Hamm appeared in the Greg Mottola comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses, as well as Zach Galifianakis and Gal Gadot; the film was released in October 2016 after being postponed seven months. In 2017, he appeared in Edgar Wright's comedy crime film Marjorie Prime, which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and later in the thriller Aardvark and the 2017 South by Southwest Festival, respectively. Hamm appeared in the drama Nostalgia and Beirut's political thriller in 2018.

Hamm was featured in Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens as the Archangel Gabriel on the BBC and Amazon's 2019.

JOAN COLLINS: I'm an Oscar voter, but I have to ask: Why are so many new films dark and troubling - what happened to glamour?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 13, 2024
Hollywood is a twitter from early January to mid-March. In La La Land, it's awards season. A pair of stylists fly in a preview of gowns for the 'female actors' (which I also reject in favour of the gracious and feminine 'actress' as well as some of the more flamboyant'male actors.' The make-up and hair specialists, nail technicians, and facialists all followed the stylists. They arrive from New York, Paris, and London, working frantically to make their client the epitome of glamour, not glamour, but instead beauty and 'trendiness,' rather than glamour.
