Club career
Flanagan made his reserve-team debut at Hull City in March 2010, while still in the U18 squad. He was first promoted to the Lancashire Senior Cup team at the start of the 2010-11 season. Tony Barrett, a writer for The Times, was then selected as one of the reserve team to watch.
Flanagan started his Premier League match against Manchester City on April 11, 2011, wearing the number 38 shirt and playing at right-back. Liverpool defeated the match 3–0, with the 18-year-old playing the full 90 minutes.
