Jon Farriss Life

Jonathan James Farriss (born 10 August 1961) is an Australian drummer and founding member of INXS.

Early years

Farriss auditioned to play in Guinness with Kirk Pengilly and brother Tim, but was refused because he was only nine years old at the time. At the age of 11, his first band was playing with a Christian choral group. He performed with bands including Top Kat, Blackwater, and Fish.

Farriss has also been credited with backing vocals on several of INXS' earlier albums. "Red Sun," "The Gift," "Faith in Each Other," "Back on Line," "Never Let You Go," "With Fortune), and the hit "Disappear" are among his songwriting credits with INXS (mostly collaborations with Michael Hutchence).

On the soundtrack to the 1984 film No Small Affair, he wrote and performed the song "You Never Used to Cry."

During Ringo's All Starr Band performance in Sydney, Jon appeared on stage with Ringo Starr in February 2013. Jon played Ringo's drums to The Beatles' song "With a Little Help from My Friends." "I was also invited and acknowledged on stage by Nile Rodgers in Sydney's historic Opera House, where Nile recalls, "My inspiration to work with INXS came from their drummer Jon Farriss' live performance while the band was playing on a festival with Hall & Oates."

Jon was co-executive producer on INXS' tribute album, "Original Sin," in 2010. Rob Thomas, Ben Harper, Tricky, John Mayer, and Pat Monahan co-produced several tracks on the album starring musicians such as Rob Thomas, Ben Harper, Tricky, John Mayer, and Pat Monahan. "The Original Sin Project has been a great success not only for us to have experienced in the studio but also for taking some of the songs on tour and mixing them in with the typical songs we play."

Farriss produced Richard Clapton's Glory Road in 1987 and appeared on The Great Escape in 1982 as well as on three tracks. Jimmy Barnes' Love and Fear co-produced Jimmy Barnes' Love and Fear, as well as performed drums, electronics, keyboards, backing vocals.

The 2010 tribute album Original Sin by Farriss co-executive features INXS songs on the cover, with each song featuring a guest artist on each song.

"A number of musicians have covered INXS music, including Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, Snow Patrol, and countless others," Farriss said. Why can't we start doing a reimagined, reimagined cover album but with our own songs," he said. "And here's how it got off."

Rob Thomas, Ben Harper, Train's Pat Monahan, Nikka Costa, and other contributors were among those who contributed.

Chris Murphy, a Farriss co-executive, co-produced the album. "There's a pretty stringent gallery of ears that must pass through the band, including myself," Farriss explained. I'm really picky about everything. But as the project progressed, it became abundant that part of my role as executive producer, as well as Chris Murphy's, was to sort of integrate producers and, if necessary, co-produce songs. You can't do anything by yourself at the end of the day. It's a team effort.

Smokin Joe (feat Viv Richards) was first published on Farriss' own label Drum Opera in March 2015. On the soul infused track, Farriss collaborated with one of cricket's finest players of all time, Viv Richards. The Farriss executive produced and co-wrote the track with Walter Brandt, Farriss' president, appeared on drums, percussion, and programming.

"Viv was such a charismatic and affable individual when meeting Viv Richards Farriss. Straight away, we were able to confirm his love of music, and it wasn't difficult to understand it. Given these parallels and my eagerness to hear him on a track, I approached him to see if he was interested in doing something musically, and thankfully he said yes.

"I was both excited and slightly worried to work with Viv." I knew this was an uncharted area. However, the aim was to have fun – I had no pressure on myself or hopes of it being a chart hit, fit into a particular niche, or live somewhere else than in people's hearts," says Farriss of their first meeting in the studio.

Leslie Bega, a writer who appeared on television from February 1992 to 1999, was married to actress Leslie Bega.

Kerry Norris, his long-time girlfriend, married him in 2006 in a small beach-side reception. In 2008, the couple's first child was born. In 2010, their son was born.
