Johnny Carpenter Career

Film career

Johnny began working in Hollywood in the mid-1940s, mainly in bit parts in B-Westerns. Johnny had risen to larger roles in Jack Schwarz's films, including Border Outlaws and Cattle Queen, his breakout film, by 1950. He appeared in several more B-Western films, while also doing stunt work in higher-profile films.

Carpenter made four films independently from 1953 to 1956; Son of the Renegade (1954), Outlaw Treasure (1955) and I Killed Wild Bill Hickok (1956). These four films have brought comparisons between Carpenter and his companion Ed Wood, who made The Lawless Rider and might have appeared on Son of the Renegade as well. Carpenter would also appear in Wood's 1959 film, Night of the Ghouls.

Western film work had faded and Carpenter's output diminished by the 1960s, with his last film role appearing in 1961's Tomboy and the Champ.
