Early life and career
William Peter Newman was born in Settle, Yorkshire Dales, on June 16th, 1990, and attended Settle College. When the Newman was six years old, his father left the family, leaving his mother Jackie, his older brother James, and him with a pound per day. Motown and Stax were influencing in his youth that he heard through his mother. He was also influenced by the Northern soul sound, which also inspired his dance style. Many over 30s from Settle will leave for Northern soul nights, all over Yorkshire. At the age of 14, he began playing guitar and writing his own songs, and soon learned how to record and produce himself, as well as making his own house tracks and DJing.
Newman came from Leeds at the age of sixteen, and it was here that he learned his voice and sound. Two of his closest friends (both engaged in professional downhill mountain biking) died in a car crash while he was in Leeds. "I actually studied it in a completely different way in the first year of moving to Leeds, rather than being sat on the library desk and listening to music," the student experience was consuming, and then sitting with a guitar and cries all night writing music." It was while visiting Leeds that he discovered other people who adored Motown and Stax music, and a time when Newman said "matured me in a musical way so much that I was writing pop music and now I'm writing music that I love and can relate to."
Newman, who was 20 years old at the time, formed a band, performed live, and was signed to Island Records. He made friends with Piers Agget, one fourth of Rudimental, while serving in The Silver Bullet bar. He released "Cheating" as a download song and performed an acoustic interpretation of the song at gigs.

We turned around and screamed with laughter as we realized, 'There's something good here,' the guy I wrote it with.' But you'd be surprised to hear how good it is, right?" When asked if it was impossible to write the lyrics about passion and break up, he replied: "No, it's the only place where I really open up to someone through my music." It's amazing that [the album] is being produced and written. I like to have a record of everything. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. The song has also been a top ten hit in more than ten countries, including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Norway, and Switzerland. It was also on the soundtrack of FIFA 14. This collection is the culmination of my life to this point; it's who I am and it's because of you. I'm so proud of this collection; it represents me as a producer, as a guitarist, and an artist, and I can't wait for people to hear it." The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart on October 20, 2013.
