John Jarratt Life

Born 5 August 1951, John Jarratt (born 5 August 1951) is an Australian television film actor, producer, and television presenter who rose to fame as a result of his work in the Australian New Wave.

He has appeared in a number of film roles, including Picnic at Hanging Rock (1977), The Odd Angry Shot (1982), Next of Kin (1982), and Dark Age (1987).

In the Wolf Creek movie, Mick Taylor played the villain Mick Taylor.

In an audio drama version of The Phoenix Files, Jack Hunter portrayed the protagonist's father.

He is also known for his recurring appearance in McLeod's Daughters, a drama series.

Early life

Jarratt was born in what was then a small coal-mining village, now the Wollongong suburb of Wongawilli, New South Wales, on the 5th August 1951, when he would grow up until the family moved to the Snowy Mountains area. His father was a coal miner and later a concreter working on the Snowy Mountains Hydrogenic Scheme. Jarratt comes from an Irish Catholic family, but his patrilineal ancestor George Jarratt, born 1833, hails from Croxton, England. George's uncle John married Mary Kelly of Ireland. Jarratt announced that his great-great-grandfather was Chinese on the genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are?

Jarratt supervised and participated in a school play that was a huge success and resulted in his school principal's suggestion that he pursue an acting career when he was in high school. He loved recreational pursuits like knitting and sewing as a youth. Scarves for his classmates were his favorite thing to make.

Personal life

Jarratt has been married four times. Rosa Miano arrives first, followed by actress Noni Hazlehurst, Jody Jarratt, and finally Rosa Miano. After characters Jarratt has played in his films, his children with his second wife, Noni, are all named. He likes finding bones on his farm in Wollongong in his spare time.

Jarratt's autobiography, The Bastard from Bush, was released on October 1, 2015.

In 1973, Jarratt graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). In 1975, his first film appearance appeared in The Great Macarthy. He appeared in Peter Weir's Picnic (1975) and Summer City (1977) with Mel Gibson. Jarratt appeared in the 1979 mini series The Last Outlaw starring Ned Kelly. In the Vietnam War film The Odd Angry Shot (1980) and We of the Never Never Nevermind (1982), he played a key supporting role as a young Australian soldier. Jarratt recognized he had a problem with binge-drinking and other violent crimes in the late 1980s. He joined Alcoholics Anonymous, an organization in which he continues to be active.

Jarratt appeared on the lifestyle show Better Homes and Gardens with then-wife Noni Hazlehurst in the 1990s. In the 1990s and 2000s, he appeared in Inspector Morse, Police Rescue, Blue Murder, Water Rats, and Blue Heelers. He appeared in McLeod's Daughters in 2001 and then departed the production in 2006. Jarratt debuted in a Husqvarna commercial in 2010, where he demonstrated the tools' effectiveness by playing his character in Wolf Creek.

Jarratt filmed a guest star role in the ABC telemovie series Jack Irish: Dead Point in May 2013.

Jarratt founded Winnah Films, his own film production company, in 2008. Savages Crossing, Winnah's first feature film (originally carrying the word Flood) went outside for principal photography in Ipswich, Queensland. In Telstra's "Next G" advertisements, he appears as the father of a teen girl on phone.

Jarratt appeared in Bad Behaviour, an ensemble exploitation extravaganza conceived and directed by Joseph Sims in 2010. Jarratt appeared in Needle, a supernatural horror film from the same year.

In 2012, he made a cameo in Quentin's Django Unchained, appearing as an Le Quint Dickie Mining Company employee alongside Tarantino himself, both speaking in Australian accents.

Jarratt reprised his role as Mick Taylor, shooting Wolf Creek 2, with Matt Hearn producing and Greg McLean directing. On February 20, 2014, the film was released.

Jarratt appeared in, and co-directed romantic comedy thriller StalkHer in January 2014, receiving mixed feedback. 'OZPIX', a film company partially owned by Jarratt, is the film's producer.

Jarratt is back on Wolf Creek 3, this time portraying the sociopathic Mick Taylor.

Jarratt returned to audio drama after working for the ABC in the 1970s to co-star in Benjamin Maio Mackay's adaptation of The Phoenix Files in 2017. Both the first two instalments were released over 2017 and 2018, but as of August 26, Jarratt is no longer listed as being involved with the campaign.
