John David Hannah (born 23 April 1962) is a Scottish film and television actor.

Matthew rose to fame in Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), for which he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Support Role.

Sliding Doors (1998) and the Mummy trilogy (1999-2008) were two of his other film appearances.

Early life

Hannah was born in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, as the youngest of three children; he has two older sisters. Susan, Susan's mother, was a cleaner at Marks & Spencer, and John, a toolmaker, was a cleaner. He began at Heathery Knowe Primary School, then Claremont High School in East Kilbride, and went on to an apprenticeship as an electrician. He performed in East Kilbride Rep Theatre Club. After finishing his apprenticeship, he then attended the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, at the suggestion of a colleague.

Personal life

Joanna Roth, a retired actress from Hannah, was born on January 20, 1996. During a studio version of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, the two met several years ago. He includes tales from their friendship, including the one about her visit to London's 'Sri Siam' restaurant, where he proposed to her in writing on the tablecloth. They and their two children live in Richmond, London.

Career

Hannah played lead roles in theatre, films, and television after graduation. With his appearance in Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), he brought him into the "big-time." He has played a psychopathic killer in Truth or Dare and a mystery-solving pathologist in McCallum since his debut in this role. In Sliding Doors (1998), he was a karaoke-mad deadbeat dad in The James Gang, the alcoholic, pilfering, but endearing, lovable come-relief brother of the female lead in The Mummy (1999), and The Mummy Returns (1999). Hannah appeared in the canceled U.S. series MDs (2004), Carnivàle (2002), and Frasier (2003). He appeared in the drama film New Street Law in 2006. He appeared in the ITV crime drama Cold Blood from 2007 to 2008.

Hannah Ferguson, a British Films producer, founded Clerkenwell Films in December 1997. The Rebus collection, which included Black And Blue and The Hanging Garden, was Clerkenwell's first big production. However, Rebus was later acquired by STV Productions, and Hannah was replaced in the leading role in the series by Ken Stott.

He is the face of the Cooperative Group's advertisements in Europe. In Spartacus: Blood and Sand and the prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Quintus Lentulus Batiatus, the owner of a gladiator training house.
