John Feinstein (born July 28, 1956) is an American sportswriter, author and sports commentator.
Early life
Feinstein was born to a Jewish family in New York City on July 28, 1956. His father was heavily involved in the arts having been the General Manager of the Washington National Opera from 1980 to 1995 and was also the first Executive Director of the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Career
Feinstein has written 44 books. Bob Knight, the Indiana University basketball team's assistant, chronicles a year on the Brink, including its mentor. He published A Good Walk Spoiled, a year on the PGA Tour, in 1995, as told by 17 players.
In addition, Feinstein has created a sports-mystery series for young adults, in which main characters Stevie Thomas and Susan Carol Anderson are reporting on major sporting events, including the Final Four, US Open (tennis), Super Bowl, World Series, Army–Navy Game, and the Summer Olympics.
With an ESPN film of the same name, A Season on the Brink was adapted to film. In the role of Bob Knight, it starred Brian Dennehy. The film was first broadcast on ESPN on March 10, 2002, but a censored version was simulcast on ESPN2. In 2002, the film was released on DVD.
Caddy for Life by Feinstein was published in 2004. It's about Tom Watson's caddy, Bruce Edwards, who was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). Feinstein and long-time friend Terry Hanson commissioned the William Morris Agency and produced a screenplay in association with Matt Damon's and Ben Affleck's production company, LivePlanet. Caddy for Life was released in 2010 in a documentary format for the Golf Channel.

Feinstein appeared on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio channel on March 8, 2012, teaming up with Bruce Murray for the sports talk show Beyond the Brink, which aired from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. ET. Feinstein did however leave the program by the fall of 2012 after being given a slot of his own on the brand new CBS Sports Radio from 9 AM to 12 noon ET. On January 2, 2013, CBS Sports Radio began live all sports talk on January 2, 2013. During an interview with a Washington, D.C. radio station, he announced that CBS had been suspended from his daily radio show on November 14, 2014.
