John Dunsworth Life

Despite not drinking for the role, John Francis Dunsworth (April 12, 1946-2017) was a Canadian actor best known for portraying Jim Lahey on the comedy series Trailer Park Boys.

He is also known for his role as a cryptic reporter on Haven's supernatural drama series Haven, as well as playing Officer McNabb in Shattered City: The Halifax Explosion, a CBC film about the 1917 Halifax Explosion.

He had extensive training in regional theater.

Early life

Dunsworth, the second of ten children born to Frank and Frances Dunsworth, was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He appeared in a video documentary short titled John Dunsworth: The Candidate, directed by Neal Livingston in 1988. The film follows an underdog provincial candidate for the New Democratic Party in Halifax Bedford Basin's riding, based on Dunsworth's candidacy in the 1988 Nova Scotia general election.

Personal life

Dunsworth and his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married sometime after 1974, lived in Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia. They had three children (Sarah, Zo, and Molly), as well as one son (Geoff). Sarah and Molly, two of his children, are actors.

Dunsworth rarely drank alcohol; the 'alcohol' he drank on the program was usually iced tea, unlike the character he played on Trailer Park Boys. In his early years, he admitted to suffering from a gambling disorder. He had been instrumental in the attempts to ban video lottery terminals from bars in Nova Scotia as a result of his recuperation.

Axl Rose, a fan of Trailer Park Boys and Dunsworth, appeared on stage with Guns N' Roses in Halifax. He was a boating enthusiast and spent a lot of time on his boat, Emerald Princess. He loved designing granite sculptures and buildings from local stone and concrete.
