Johann Voldemar Jannsen (16 May) [O.S.] 1819 in Vändra, Livonia, Russian Empire, May 4 – September 13th [O.S.] In Tartu, 1890, an Estonian journalist and poet active in Livonia. He wrote the words of the patriotic song "Mu isamaa, mu nn ja rm," which later became Estonia's national anthem.
He was the father of poet Lydia Koidula.
Jannsen, the head of the Tartu choral society that held the first national Song Festival in 1869, was instrumental in the Estonian National Awakening.
