Life and career

Joey McFarland, an American film director, is a filmmaker from the United States. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended DeSales High School and the University of Louisville.

McFarland co-founded Red Granite Pictures in 2010 with production partner Riza Aziz. Variety selected McFarland as one of the Top Ten Producers to Watch in 2011.

Friends with Kids, McFarland's first venture under the Red Granite banner, was the romantic comedy Friends with Kids. Jennifer Westfeldt wrote and directed Friends with Kids, which also stars Jon Hamm, Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Chris O'Dowd. McFarland went on to executive produce Out of the Furnace, starring Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker, and directed by Scott Cooper in 2012.

The Wolf of Wall Street was produced by McFarland next year. The Wolf of Wall Street is based on Jordan Belfort's best-selling book of the same name. Terence Winter's book was turned into a screenplay. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Matthew Mcconaughey, Margot Robbie, and Martin Scorsese directed the film. The Wolf of Wall Street, a box office hit and earned critical acclaim, as well as a Golden Globe award for actor Leonardo DiCaprio in a Motion Picture Comedy, for which McFarland was nominated.

McFarland completed production on Horns, a supernatural thriller starring Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple, and directed by Alexandre Aja in 2013. The film is based on Joe Hill's best-selling book and was published by Dimension-RADiUS on October 31, 2014.

McFarland was also a producer on the sequel Dumb and Dumber To, directed by Pete and Bobby Farley. Jim Cary and Jeff Daniels appeared in the film on November 14, 2014, respectively, and Universal Pictures released Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. It opened at the box office at number one, receiving mostly critical feedback.

McFarland was executive producer on the film Daddy's Home, directed by Sean Anders and John Morris. For the first time since 2010, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg re-teamed in New Orleans. Red Granite Pictures co-produced and co-financed the film in association with Gary Sanchez Productions. Paramount Pictures was also the world distribution partner. On December 25, 2015, the film was released.

Papillon, a McFarland production based on Henri Charrière's best-selling autobiography, was released in Papillon, a recreation of the 1973 film of the same name based on Henri Charrière's best-selling autobiography. Charlie Hunnam (Papillon) appeared in the film, as Henri Charrière ("Papillon"), and Rami Malek as Louis Dega. It premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017. Papillon was published on August 24, 2018.

He formed McFarland Entertainment, a self-producing firm that also film and television.
