Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott (born January 20, 1995), also known as Joey Badass, is an American rapper, singer, guitarist, and actor.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and he has appeared on three mixtapes as well as numerous solo projects. On June 12, 2012, Joey Badass launched his debut mixtape, 1999, to critical acclaim and admiration, followed by Rejex in September and the Summer Knights in 2013.

B4.Da.$$ is his first studio album, and it was released on January 20, 2015.

Mr.n't made his television debut on the USA Network series Mr. During July 2016, he made his television debut on the USA Network show Mr. Robot.

All-Amerikkkan Badass, his second studio album, was released on April 7, 2017.

Early life

Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott was born on January 20, 1995, and was the first of his immediate Caribbean family to be born in the United States. His maternal family came from St. Lucia, Caribbean islands, while his paternal family comes from Jamaica. He was born in Brooklyn, New York City, in the East Flatbush neighborhood. He was raised in Bed-Stuy and attended the Edward R. Murrow High School. He started studying acting at Edward R. Murrow, but around the time of 9th grade, he went back to music with a focuses on rapping.

He began rapping under the name "JayOhVee," but later changed it to Joey Badass. According to him, the name change was due to the media's heightened interest in rappers with more cynical names, saying it was "what sounded cool at the time, what represented [his] mood." At the age of 11, he began writing poetry and songs. He and CJ Fly are founding members of the Progressive Era, or Pro Era for short, which was founded by his high school classmates Capital Steez and Powers Pleasant.

Joey Badass posted a video of himself freestyling on YouTube in October 2010. The video was re-posted on to American hip hop website World Star Hip Hop and caught Jonny Shipes, the president of Cinematic Music Group who shortly thereafter became his boss, and Jonny Shipes was on alert.

Joey Badass and Capital Steez released a video for "Survival Tactics" on YouTube, which includes a video of the 2000 Fold song from Styles of Beyond. Pro Era's debut mixtape The Secc$ Tap.e was released in February 2012 in February 2012.e.e. MTV News featured Joey Badass' verse from the video during a RapFix Live segment on March 21, 2012, and then appeared as a featured guest on Sucker Free for the following month. On MTV2, the song was a hit on the first day of "Hardknock" starring CJ Fly.

Joey Badass released his debut solo mixtape 1999 on June 12, 2012. In 2018, this album was exclusive to music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. In June 2012, there was a video for the song "Waves." The mixtape immediately raised his fame in the underground world. Complex magazine ranked the mixtape as the best mixtape of 2012 by HipHopDX. He released Rejex, a second mixtape that did not make it into the 1999 mixtape, on September 6th of the same year.

Mac Miller, an American rapper, reached out to Joey Badass on Twitter to collaborate. In April 2012, he appeared on "America" from Mixtape Macadelic and opened for Miller at the Roseland Ballroom. Joey Badass was rumored to be signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation record label in December 2012, but he denied the rumors that he'd rather remain anonymous than commit to a major brand at the time being. Pro Era's P.E.E.P.P., the aPROcalypse mixtape, was unveiled on December 21, 2012.

Joey Badass joined Ab-Soul produced by Lee Bannon on November 9, 2012, along with "Waves." These songs were his first official launches to retail. He released "Unorthodox," his second mixtape Summer Knights' second mixtape Summer Knights song, on January 14, 2013. Big K.R.I.T. appeared in a music video on February 8. "Underground Airplay" by Smoke DZA. The song was performed on the Eck. Unltd. Mixtape. He unveiled "Unorthodox"'s music video on March 5, 2013. On March 21, 2013, he began Pro Era, The Underachievers, and Flatbush Zombies, which culminated in the Beast Coast concert tour. Joey Badass would be a member of XXL Magazine's 2013 Freshman Class, which was announced on March 26, 2013.

The Summer Knights EP was released on October 29, 2013. It featured four songs from the same name as the mixtape, as well as three new tracks, one of which was a remix. The EP debuted at number 48 on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip Albums chart upon its release.

"Curry Chicken" was the fourth single released on December 23, the fourth single. Jimmy Fallon, BJ the Chicago Kid, The Roots, and Statik Selektah performed the song "Like Me" live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 13. The album entitled B4.DA.$$$$, which was his 20th birthday, was released on January 20, 2015.

Joey Badass and Korean hip-hop group Epik High's Tablo and producer Code Kunst performed "Hood" together on September 3, 2015. On October 6, 2015, he collaborated with British indie rock band Glass Animals, releasing a single titled "Lose Control."

Joey Badass made his television debut in the second season of the hit TV show Mr. Robot, where he was portrayed in Leon, who is an associate of Elliot (played by Rami Malek). He released another single called "Devastated" on May 26, 2016. The song debuted at number 25 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, becoming Joey's highest charting single to date (as a solo artist). The single was given the gold medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects on January 6, 2017. Joey Badass released "Land of the Free" on January 20, 2017. Joey Bada$$'s second studio album, "All-Amerikkkan Bada$," was revealed on March 2, 2017. Joey Badass' album was released on April 7, 2017. Joey Badass would appear on Logic's Everybody's Tour with Big Lenbo on May 12, 2017 in support of Logic's third studio album Everybody.

Joey Badass revealed via Twitter on December 28, 2017 that he and T-Pain appeared on Post Malone's track "Rockstar" earlier this year. Badass admitted to ghostwriting the book. Badass later revealed on Instagram that he had a joint venture with Joey Badass. On March 9, 2018, the two performed a remix of "King's Dead" on SoundCloud. On XXTentacion's second studio album, the two artists dropped a song titled "Infinity (888)" later that day. On March 16, a week later, a week later. With the murder of XXXTentacion, however, they have now confirmed that no such thing is going to take place. On May 11, 2022, he announced his forthcoming third studio album, titled 2000, but he did not expect to be released until sample clearance issues, but he revealed on Twitter that he would have to postpone the project. The album was released on July 22, 2022, with guest appearances from Diddy, Westside Gunn, Larry June, Capella Grey, and JID. He also went on a 20-date summer concert tour in support of the 1999-2000 Tour in favour of charity, which began in June 1, 2022 in Boston and concluded in Los Angeles on July 28, 2022.
