Playing career
In the 2003 Super 12 season, Rokocoko played for the Blues. On June 14, 2003, he made his first appearance for the All Blacks against England. He had a high strike rate for the All Blacks, scoring 25 runs in his first 20 tests, and breaking the All Blacks single-season record for test attempts shared by Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen in 2003—his 17 test attempts equals the world record held by Daisuke Ohata of Japan. In 2003, the International Rugby Players' Union named him as the year's best player of the year. His extraordinary speed has been seen many times throughout his career. Rokocoko shredded the England defense for three tries in a 36–12 victory over the reigning Rugby World Cup champions on June 19, 2004 in the All Blacks' second 2004 match with England.
Rokocoko made his way back to the All Blacks in the 2005 Tri Nations Series, bringing a two-try effort in the All Blacks' pivotal home game against South Africa. He had scored 35 points in 39 test matches by the end of the 2006 season and, in total, he had scored 46 tests for the All Blacks, including 4 hat-tricks against France (2003), Australia (2004), and Romania (2006). In June 2009, he scored his first try since the 2007 Rugby World Cup against Italy.
He signed with Aviron Bayonnais of the Top 14 in 2011, after 68 games for New Zealand and 96 for the Blues. He played for Aviron Bayonnais for a total of four seasons, where he made a career switch from wing to center during his time there. Rokocoko had signed a race Metro 92 deal in July 2015 and would join a number of other New Zealanders plying their trade at this club in Paris. He debuted with them on Friday, August 21, 2015, where Racing Metro thrashed Toulon in Toulon after beating Stade Mayol. Racing defeated Toulon in the final of the 2015–16 Top 14 season. Rokocoko scored a try.
