Joe Lynch Life

Joseph Laurence Lynch (16 July 1925 – August 2001) was an Irish actor who worked in both serious drama and light comedy.

He also did voice work for children's animated film, including Chorlton and the Wheelies.

He had a natural singing voice and composed songs, as well as for the film Johnny Nobody (1961).

"The Whistling Gypsy" and Dick Farley's "Cottage by the Lee," one of Joe's best 1950s recordings, were also recorded by the guitarist. Joe Lynch starred on the North Monastery CBS and rose to prominence in Ireland in the 1950s when his radio show Life with Lynch was broadcast on Sunday nights on Radio Éireann.

He was also a founding member of the Radio Éireann Players and appeared in Teresa Deevy's productions, among other things.

He appeared on stage in 1967-1981, and he had a career with the Abbey Theatre from 1967 to 1981.

Lynch appeared in the popular ABC/Thames television sitcom Never Mind the Details, Feel the Width, between 1968 and 1970, as well as in its spin-off feature film in 1973.

The Siege of Sidney Street (1960), The Running Man (1964), Girl with Green Eyes (1964), The Face of Fu Manchu (1970), The Beast (1980), The Outsider (1979) and Eat the Peach (1986).

Lynch made regular guest appearances as Elsie Tanner's boyfriend in the long-running Granada television series Coronation Street in the 1970s. Lynch received a Jacob's Award in 1962 and again in 1977 for his appearance on RTÉ television. Lynch had returned to Ireland in 1979 and made his first appearances as Dinny Byrne in the RTÉ soap Bracken.

"Is there an'thin' stirrin?" says Dinny Byrne later this year. Lynch resigned from Glenroe after being "shamefully treated" and "limited potatoes" when he asked for a pay increase.

He was also angry that he was not going to get a pension.

These allegations were debunked by RTÉ.

Lynch chastised RTÉ for refusing to perform any acting work with Glenroe.

"I was terrible in RTÉ; they wouldn't let me off for anything, even commercials." "Lynch was also the voice of the main antagonist Grundel the Toad of Don Bluth's film Thumbelina's last audio work before his death seven years ago."

Early life

Lynch, who was born in Mallow, County Cork, attended the North Monastery Christian Brothers School. He worked in various other professions before transitioning to acting and broadcasting full time.
