Joe Conley (March 3, 1928 – July 7, 2013) was an American actor who played many small roles on television and is most remembered for his role as the storekeeper Ike Godsey in The Waltons.
Personal life and career
Joe Conley was born in Buffalo, New York. He began working after returning from military service in Korea and by the early 1970s, he was running three real estate companies in Los Angeles's San Fernando Valley area. He went back to work in real estate and, as a result, became wealthy.
His career as an actor had slowed considerably by the 1970s. He appeared in mainly television shows, and in an AT&T educational film titled How to Lose Your Best Customer Without Even Trying Before being cast as storekeeper Ike Godsey in The Waltons, he appeared with Pat Harrington. Conley was paired with Ronnie Claire Edwards, who portrayed his bossy wife Corabeth Walton Godsey; their characters were married in the 1975 drama. Conley's autobiography, Ike Godsey of Walton's Peak, was published in 2009.
He was married to and divorced from Jacqueline Stakes, with whom he had two children. In 1969, he married Louise Teecher and had two children with her.
Conley died on July 7, 2013, at a care facility in Newbury Park, California, of dementia problems. He was 85 and survived by his wife, three daughters, and son.
