Biography and career

Samuel was born in Camperdown, Australia. She studied dance with Honeybrooks and drama at the Independent Theatre in London.

Samuel had appeared in police procedurals Matlock Police and Homicide prior to her appearance in Mad Max. She was also a regular cast member of television soap operas Class of '74, The Sullivans and The Young Doctors. After a fellow Young Doctors actress who was supposed to play the role fell ill, Samuel Dawson-Young in Skyways later returned to television in the regular role.

Samuel's other film appearances included roles in Alison's Birthday (1981), Early Frost (1982), Queen of the Road (1984), The Long Way Home (1987), Gallagher's Travels (1987), and Spook (1988). She appeared in Hey Dad later in life as a guest star. Jeanette Taylor and All Saints (1997) appeared in The Wiggles Movie as Ms. Bingle.

Samuel is the vice chairman of BOOMPAA, the Blue Mountains Performing Arts Association. Doris Mercher appeared in My Pet Dinosaur, directed by Matt Drummond, in 2017.
