James Herbert Sears (Jimmy) Sears (March 20, 1931 – January 4, 2002) was a professional American football defensive back/halfback in the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL).

Jim Sears Career

High school career

The Sears were preparing at Inglewood High School, California, where he served as the president of the student body in spring 1949.

College career

At the University of Southern California, the Sears played college football. He was seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior year. He became the second individual to be voted a W.J. in 1952. The Voit Memorial Trophy is given to the outstanding football player on the Pacific Coast by the Voit Memorial Trophy. Sears attended El Camino Junior College in Torrance, California, before playing for the USC Trojans.

Professional career

Sears played for the Chicago Cardinals (1954, 1957–1958), as well as the Los Angeles Chargers (1960) and Denver Broncos (1961).

Coaching career

During the 1959 season, Sears was an assistant coach for the University of New England.
