Jim Russell Life

Herbert James Russell (28 May 1920 to March 30, 2019), better known as Jim Russell, was an English racing driver, garage operator, and a co-founder of the Jim Russell Racing Driver School. He died on March 30, 2019, just after undergoing hip replacement surgery.

Early life and garage

Russell was born in his parents' fish and chip store and spent the majority of his life in Downham Market, Norfolk. He started selling ice cream for the first time. He became a garage owner after being in the RAF during World War II.

More than 100 people were working in the garage, gas station, and race schools by 1960. In November 2007, the car garage was closed and demolished, with the property being reserved for new dwelling. Russell Gardens, an exclusive, gated development, was launched in late 2013.
