Slackers Philip is in Slackers. Craig Pelton, the dean of the community college in which the show takes place, appeared on Community from 2009 to 2015.

In 2005, Rash and comedy partner Nat Faxon began screenwriting with a pilot for a film called Adopted, which did not take off. They wrote the screenplay for The Descendants (2011), based on a book of the same name that appeared on the Black List in 2008 (the most famous unproduced scripts in Hollywood at the time). The film received a Golden Globe nomination and the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay when it was released. However, screenwriters and producers Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor's script for The Descendants was largely re-written. Payne will continue to direct the film. Payne talked to Vulture about a deal between Payne/Taylor and Rash/Faxon. Rash/Faxon would give the acceptance addresses for all of the awards except the Academy Award; Payne/Taylor would conduct the Academy Award speech.

The Way Way Back (2013) co-wrote and co-directed by Rash and Faxon, which received a standing ovation at its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Rash's teen years inspired portions of the film.

For all four seasons of the Adult Swim animated comedy Mike Tyson Mysteries, Rash has played the Marquess of Queensbury. Since 2017, he has been the voice actor for Donald Duck universe character Gyro Gearloose in the revival of DuckTales.
