Musical career

While signed to The Ultimate Group and managed by Chris Stokes, Aiko began singing on many B2K releases as well as a song on The Master of Disguise soundtrack in 2002. During this period, she was regarded as Lil' Fizz's cousin, but she is not related to him. It was used as a marketing tool, suggested by Sony, The Ultimate Group, and Epic Records, to promote Aiko and attract a following, but Aiko maintains that she and Lil' Fizz grew up together and were close like families. B2K: The Remixes, she appeared on tracks five through eight of the R&B company's remix album B2K: The Remixes, Volume 1. "Santa Baby," a cover she performed on their album Santa Hooked Me Up, was also on display, and she appeared as a guest vocalist on Pandemonium's song "Tease." "Dog" became a bonus track for her album.

Aiko has also appeared in many music videos, including O'Ryan's debut video "Take It Slow," B2K's debut video "Uh Huh" and "Why I Love You," P.Y.T. Sarai, Play's "M.A.S.E.R.'s" is a remix of "Same Ol' Same Ol' (Remix)" featuring Sarai, M.A.T.E.R. (Part 2)" features Lil' Fizz video and Morgan Smith's 2004 film "Blow Ya Whistle." Jhené also has songs on the soundtracks of Barbershop, The Master of Disguise, You Got Served, The Proud Family, and Byou. She released a video for her single "NO L.O.V.E" (re-recorded from Tha' Rayne version in 2002), which premiered on BET's 106 & Park when she was 15 years old. Aiko had planned to release My Name Is Jhené, then-titled My Name Is Jhené, in 2003 via Sony, The Ultimate Group, Epic; however, the album was never released due to controversy at the record label Epic, which ultimately resulted in Aiko's request to be cut from the label. Aiko's education was interrupted by the aforementioned names in order to continue her education.

In an interview she discussed the possibility, she said, "I stepped back into the field and had a chat with a label chief shortly before I conceived my daughter." I was gently advised in this meeting to'sell' myself before going into these meetings. "I was more interested in'sail' myself than selling myself" at the time. Miguel, Drake and Kanye West's collaborations were included in the mixtape as well as others. R&B musician Miguel joined Mixtape Aiko for a one-off free concert on Sunday, July 15. Aiko released a music video for the song "My Mine" on October 21, 2012. "Stranger," Jhene's second track on the mixtape, has also been released a video. She began collaborating closely with artists from Top Dawg Entertainment, such as Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, on her EP, which was released on November 12, 2013.

Aiko met with No I.D., record producer and vice president of A&R in 2012, who later signed Aiko to his Artium Records imprint through Def Jam. "3:16 AM," Aiko's track "3:16AM," which was released on iTunes on September 4, 2012. The album was released as Sail Out's first single. "The Worst" was broadcast on rhythmic contemporary radio in the United States on January 14, 2014, as the album's third single. On May 2, 2014, "The Worst" went from three to one on the airplay Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop, and in doing so, she became the first female artist to top the charts with a debut single since Jazmine Sullivan in 2008. Aiko performed "From Time" on Saturday Night Live on January 18, 2014, with the episode's host, Drake. In a January 2014 interview with Vibe, Aiko revealed that her debut studio album Souled Out will be released in May 2014. However, the album's release date would be postponed. Aiko premiered "My Afternoon Dream" on March 16, 2014, as well as a accompanying music video directed by Aiko and Krissy. "To Love & Die," the album's lead single, was released on June 23, 2014. The album also debuted on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hip Albums and US R&B Albums, with 121,012 units sold in the United States. There were more three singles on the album: "The Pressure," the album's second single, was released on iTunes on July 18, 2014. The Pressure debuted on the US Hot R&B Songs chart at number five, and it peaked at number twenty five the next week, at number twenty-three. On December 12, 2014, "Wading" was released as the album's third single, as well as a accompanying video, and Spotless Mind's debut on many critics' year end lists and was dubbed by Gail Mitchell of Billboard as one of the few R&B artists to break through and "make some noise" in the R&B market. Following the release of the song "Post to Be," a collaboration with Omarion, Rob Markman, editor of MTV News, "I might let your baby chauffeur me, but he gotta eat the booty like groceries."

Aiko was nominated for three Grammy Awards in February 2015, including Best R&B Song for "The Worst" and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Sail Out. Aiko would join rapper J. Cole on his tour called Forest Hills Drive Tour in the same month. Aiko's free song "Life Room Flow" was released on March 19, 2015. The article "In a World of My Own / Very Good Advice" from Alice in Wonderland by Aiko was included on the "We Love Disney" compilation album, which was released in October 2015.

Aiko unveiled a collaboration album with rapper Big Sean under the name Twenty88, their self-titled debut album, was released exclusively on TIDAL for four days, and it was also available for download on April 1. Aiko released "Triggered (Freestyle)" on May 8, 2019, which debuted at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number three on the US R&B Songs chart, debuting at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and landed at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number three. It's the first official single from her forthcoming 2019 album. The freestyle addressed a variety of topics, including her past relationships. Big Sean, Aiko's ex-boyfriend, was believed to have been the subject of the song. Aiko denied rumors that "Triggered (freestyle)" was a diss track, but Aiko took to Twitter to deny these claims.

Chilombo, Aiko's third studio album, was released in March 2020. She appeared in America the Beautiful on February 13, 2022, the first time she played America the Beautiful before Super Bowl LVI was conceived.

In July 2022, Aiko began Allel Sound in collaboration with Def Jam records. She signed rapper August 08 and appeared on the latter's single "Water Sign" by the artist.

Jhené Aiko applied for a provisional restraining order against a man named Ian Craig Lees, who she claims'snuck into her Pacific Palisades home.' According to legal records obtained by TMZ, the 35-year-old singer has reportedly "fears for her life" after numerous alleged attempts from Lees, 29, to contact her. The mother-of-two said Lees'physical altercation with the residential security in her neighborhood' earlier this month, rather than turning up to her shows and events.' She also requested that the provisional restraining order [TRO] be extended to her partner, Big Sean, their son, Noah Hasani, nine months, and Namiko Love, a R&B singer who shares O'Ryan. A judge denied Lees' request for a provisional restraining order, which would have ordered him to remain, at least 100 yards away from her and her family.

In Los Angeles on Saturday, Jhené Aiko was the perpetrator of a carjacking on Saturday. According to TMZ, the Range Rover SUV of a Sativa artist was stolen while she and her parents were eating dinner at the Tasty Noodle House in west LA. The B.S. was revealed in police reports. At the popular restaurant, the artist locked her key with the valet, but she was later discovered driving away about 30 minutes later.
