In 2013, she set a new women's land speed record (four wheels) and then broke her own record in 2016.
She was dubbed "the fastest woman on four wheels" by the Spike TV show Xtreme 4x4 for more than 90 episodes from 2005 to 2009.

Early life and education
Combs was born in Rockerville, South Dakota, on July 27, 1980, the daughter of Jamie Combs and Nina Darrington. When she was two years old, the family moved to Piedmont, South Dakota. Kelly Combs and Danielle Theis had two siblings, as well as three step-siblings, Rebekah Hall, Arielle Hall, and Austin Darrington. Nina DeBow, a jazz pianist who competed Stanley Steamers, was Combs' great-grandmother.
In 1998, she graduated from Stevens High School. Combs earned her degree from WyoTech in 2004, where she participated in the Collision & Refinishing Core Program, Street Rod Fabrication, and High Performance Powertrain classes. Combs' first professional career followed her graduation, when the WyoTech marketing department recruited her and another student to build a car from the ground up in six months to debut at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association's (SEMA) show.
Career
Combs rode in a variety of events and had many successes as a professional racer.
Combs rode the North American Eagle (NaE) Supersonic Speed Challenger at the Alvord desert on October 9, 2013, establishing the women's 4-wheel land speed record with a total speed of 398.954 km/h (609 km/h) and a top speed of 709 km/h). She broke the 48-year-old woman's land speed record, a 308.506 mph (496.492 km/h) run average set by Lee Breedlove in Spirit of America - 1965. The Other American Eagle's top speed was set at 477.59 mph (768.61 km/h) on September 7, 2016.
Combs was also a 2014 Ultra 4 Spec Class National Champion with Falken Tire. She claimed first place in King of the Hammers in 2016 and a 2017 12th-place finish in the Unlimited Class driving the same Stock Mod vehicle.
For four years, Combs hosted the SpikeTV television show Xtreme 4x4, which was a part of the Powerblock. Combs revealed in February 2008 that she would leave the show following an on-set crash.
Combs appeared in twelve episodes of MythBusters' seventh season in 2009, while Kari Byron was on maternity leave. She has also appeared on Overheard'.
