Following two similarly high-profile trials last year, the latest development in Arbery's murder, which was expected to be put to bed last year, appeared in the form of appellate briefs filed on Friday by three men currently serving sentences. Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael, and William 'Roddie' Bryan Jr. were arrested in May 2020 for their involvement in the young man's death and later found guilty largely due to video evidence revealing the entirety of the February 2020 assault. The three men were found guilty of felony murder in November 2021 and are now serving life sentences, according to prosecutors, after being found guilty of felony murder, intent on doing him harm due to his skin color. Attorneys for the men, on the other hand, are arguing that prior racial remarks on their social media mistook Arbery for their blackness, although prosecutors' appeals have not shown that they assaulted Arbery because he was black.
