Leighton Vander Esch retired from football after six seasons, with the linebacker stepping away after missing 12 games for the Dallas Cowboys last year due to a string of neck injuries. Vander Esch, a 28-year-old former first-round draft pick, was revealed three days after the Cowboys cut him with a failed physical description. His back surgery last season was his fourth since 2019 involving the neck and was considered career-threatening.
