She is bilingual and grew up in Paris, France, for the most part of her life.

Isabelle Lightwood is best known for her role in the film version of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and Alice Whelan in the British drama series Indian Summers.

Early life

Parents in the West are English. Her father is an accountant and her mother is a business interpreter. Her parents immigrated to Paris when she was five years old. She attended the Sorbonne and graduated in the history of art while taking acting lessons in the evening. She can speak both French and English. She has described herself as utterly English and has stated that working in her mother tongue is much more enjoyable; she claims that Paris is her home.

When West appeared in the 1999 film Joan Of Arc, directed by Luc Besson, she made her acting debut at the age of 12. She appeared in the short film I'm an Actrice directed by Mawenn, and she also appeared in the third season of the Canadian television series 15/Love.

West went on to appear in French television shows Ben & Thomas, Trouble Paradis, R.I.A. Josephine Ange Gardien and Police Scientifique were married in an episode of King Guillaume, which was followed by her second film role in the French capital, co-starring Florence Foresti.

West appeared in Paradis Criminel, a two-part thriller mini-series titled Who Killed Little Red Riding Hood as Louisa in 2009. Serge Meynard wrote and directed the mini-series, which went on to win "Best mini-series" at the 2009 La Rochelle TV Film Festival, attracting 3 million viewers on France 2 on August 22. On the channel, the mini-series therefore ranks as the 8th best-rated fiction of the year.

West appeared in the French mini-series Maison Close in which she starred as Rose, a young country girl compelled to work for her freedom in a brothel. Anne Charrier and Valérie Karsenti co-star Anne Karsenti and Valérie Karsenti.

In The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, a film adaptation of Cassandra Clare's first book The Mortal Instruments, West played Isabelle Lightwood. Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Robert Sheehan appeared in the film West co-starred. On August 21, 2013, the film was released.
