Jeffrey DeMunn (born April 25, 1947) is an American stage, film, and television actor known for his role as Captain Esteridge (1986), Sherb Geller in Citizen X (1995), Harry Terwilliger in The Walking Dead (1999), and Billions' Chuck Rhoades, Sr.

Early life

DeMunn was born in Buffalo, New York, and the nephew of actress Betty Lutes DeMunn. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Union College.

Personal life

In 1974, DeMunn married Ann Sekjaer, but the couple divorced in 1995. Kerry Leah was married in 2001.

Career

He came from the United Kingdom in 1970 and received stage training at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He appeared in a Royal Shakespeare Company National Tour's production of King Lear and A Midsummer Night's Dream when he returned to the United States in 1972. He appeared in many off-Broadway productions, including Bent, Modigliani, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. DeMunn has appeared in various stages of emerging plays at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. He appeared in a K2 production in 1983, earning him a Tony Award nomination. He appeared in Death of a Salesman at San Diego's Old Globe Theater in 2012 and A Family For All Occasions at the Bank Street Theatre in 2013.

DeMunn is best known for his films starring director Frank Darabont, who has starred him in films including The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Majestic, and The Mist. He appeared in the 1988 adaptation of The Blob, which Darabont co-wrote. He also narrated Dreamcatcher and The Colorado Kid's audiobooks. In 1995, he was named Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for his portrayal of serial killer Andrei Chikatilo in the HBO film Citizen X, receiving a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie nomination.

DeMunn has appeared on numerous television shows. Kojak, Moonlighting, LA Law, and The West Wing are among his extensive television resumes. In Law & Order, and Jury, he appeared in the recurring role of Norman Rothenberg. He appeared in the television miniseries Storm of the Century. Dale Horvath appeared in Frank Darabont's television adaptation of the comic book series The Walking Dead from 2010 to 2012. Hal Morrison was cast as Hal Morrison in the 2013 television series Mob City, which was also created by Darabont, upon his release.
