Early life

Hughes grew up in Quorn, where he grew up listening to his father's country recordings. At the age of eight, he won a local country music competition and started playing guitar from age nine, learning lessons from his father. He toured Europe when he was 12 years old and performed with various Australian country musicians throughout his youth. After graduating from high school, he moved to Levelland, Texas, to study bluegrass at South Plains College. He dropped out and moved to Nashville, where he worked as a guitarist for Patty Loveless while studying under Terry McBride (formerly of McBride & the Ride). He later signed with MCA Records, who released his debut album Transcontinental in 2004. He had hits with singles "High Lonesome" and "Soldier for the Lonely," the latter of which reached No. 59. On the United States, there are 60 people on the map. Billboard Country charts. "Stay with Me" was written by Hughes and McBride and Brett James, as well as Brett James. On Patty Loveless's 2008 album Sleepless Nights, Hughes is a duet partner. He appears on three tracks from Sarah Buxton's self-titled debut album, which was released on February 23, 2010.

Later Career (2011–present)

Hughes performed on guitar and co-wrote "Self Made" on the platinum-selling Little Big Town album Tornado. He co-wrote for Build Me Up From Bones, alongside Sarah Jarosz, on her Grammy Nominated Album Build Me Up From Bones. "Mile on the Moon" and "Over The Edge" were two songs from "Mile on the Moon." He was named lead guitarist of the Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell tour's Grammy Award-winning album Old Yellow Moon in the spring of 2013. Morgan Evans, a singer from Australia, has also performed on Morgan Evans' new album. Hughes moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and founded Royal Noise Productions.
