Jeanne Carolyn Cagney (March 25, 1919 – December 7, 1984) was an American film, stage, and television actress.

Early years

Carolyn Elizabeth Cagney (née Nelson), a widowed mother who was born in New York City, Cagney, raised her four older brothers. Two of her brothers, James Cagney, was a film actress and producer/producer William Cagney. She attended Hunter College High School. She was a cum laude graduate of Hunter College (now part of City University of New York) and a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society, majoring in French and German. She has appeared in plays commissioned by the college's dramatic society. She studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse after graduating from college.
