Jaya Bachchan Life

Jaya Bachchan (née Bhaduri; born on 9 April 1948) is an Indian film actress and politician.

She is currently the Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha of the Samajwadi Party, and has been serving four terms since 2004.

She is known as one of the top Hindi film actresses of her time, particularly for her reinforcing a naturalistic style of acting in both mainstream and "middle-of-the-road" cinema.

She has received nine Filmfare Awards, three for Best Actress and three for Best Supporting Actress, making her the overall most coveted performer in the female acting categories alongside Nutan.

In 2007, she was given the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 1992, she was honoured by the Government of India on her debut as an adult in Satyajit Ray's Mahanagar (1963), where Bachchan's first film role as an adult was in Guddi (1971), directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, with whom she would appear in several films.

She was known for her appearances in films including Uphaar (1971), Koshish (1972), and Kora Kagaz (1974), among others.

In films including Zanjeer (1973), Abhimaan (1973), Chupke Chupke (1975), and Sholay (1975), she appeared alongside her husband Amitabh Bachchan (1975). Bachchan restricted her film work following her marriage to actor Amitabh Bachchan and the birth of their children.

After her appearance in the Silsila (1981), she took an indefinite break from filmmaking.

She returned to acting with Govind Nihalani's Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa in 1998.

Since then, she has appeared in several critically and commercially lucrative films, including Fiza (2000), Kabhi Gham (2002), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), all of which have received her critical acclaim, as well as numerous awards and nominations.

Personal life

Jaya Bhaduri was born in Bengali Brahmin family and is the niece of Taroon Kumar Bhaduri, a journalist, writer, and wife, Indira. She attended St Joseph's Convent School, Bhopal, and graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

Amitabh Bachchan married her on June 3, 1973. Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, both actors, are married. Shweta is married to industrialist Nikhil Nanda, grandson of the Kapoor family in Delhi, and has two children, Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda, while Abhishek Bachchan is married to actress Aishwarya Rai and has a daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan.

Some sections of Maharashtra's government had condemned Bachchan's address during the musical launch of Drona in the second half of 2008. "Hum UP log hain," Goldie Behl's opening address in English, she said in Hindi, "isliye Hindi mein baat baat karenge, Maharashtra ke log maaf kijiye." "We are people from up," the translator says, so we will speak in Hindi." "Please excuse us, people of Maharashtra." Priyanka Chopra was encouraged to speak in Hindi by the actressesequently.

In her address, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray said she had no interest referring to all the residents of Maharashtra. If she apologized in a public forum for offending the sentiments of Maharashtrians, he threatened to ban all Bachchan films. Theatre workers in MNS began to criticize the Last Lear, which starred her husband. "After making all your success and fortune in Mumbai, we would not say that we are from up," Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said. Amitabh Bachchan expressed regret for her remark on her behalf.

Jaya Bachchan Career

Career

Jaya Bachchan is an alumna of India's Film and Television Institute. She appeared in Satyajit Ray's Bengali film Mahanagar (1963), with Anil Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee, and the film Dhanye Meye (1971), where she appeared in two more Bengali films, including the role of Uttam Kumar's sister-in-law.

Inspired by Ray's experience, she joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and graduated with the gold medal. In Guddi (1971), Hrishikesh Mukherjee played the eponymous role of a teenage school girl obsessed with film star Dharmendra. Guddi was a commercial success and created the girl-next-door image for her, which she was often associated with throughout her career. Though she did go out to perform glamorous roles in Jawani Diwani (1972) and a semi-negative portrayal of an amnesia-faking heroine in Anamika (1973), she was best known for her appearances in "middle-cinema" films like Gulzar, Basu Chatterjee, and, in fact, Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Uphaar (1971), Piya Ka Ghar (1972), Parichay (1972), Koshish (1972), and Bawarchi (1972) were among these films. She was also dubbed a celebrity by the authorities.

Bhaduri and Sanjeev Kumar played a deaf couple who lived through their challenges as disabled people in Gulzar's Koshish (1973). She referred to the film as "a learning experience" which compelled her to pursue social work in the future.

In Bansi Birju (1972), she first worked with Amitabh Bachchan, followed by B. R. Ishara's Ek Nazar in the same year. When Amitabh had suffered with a string of failures and most lead heroines had declined to work with him in the Salim–Jave scripted Zanjeer (1973), she decided to step in. The film turned out to be a huge hit, especially Amitabh Bachchan's gruesome-young man image. Both their films as a pair were huge hits - Abhimaan (1973), Chupke Chupke (1975), Mili (1975) and Sholay (1975).

Shweta was born in the United States about the time when Jaya and Amitabh were on Sholay, which was around the time when Jaya and Amitabh were working on Sholay. Following this, she resigned from film and concentrated on raising her children, making an exception for Yash Chopra's Silsila (1981), who appeared opposite her husband once more. She wrote the book for Shahenshah (1988), which starred her husband in the lead.

She returned to acting with Govind Nihalani's Hazaar Ki Maa (1998), a film about the Naxalite movement after a gap of 17 years. She appeared in Fiza in 2000, earning the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She appeared in Karan Johar's ensemble family melodrama Kabhie Gham (1901) with her husband. Jennifer Kapur, Jennifer Kapur, played Preity Zinta's mother, Jennifer Kapur, in Johar's romantic comedy drama, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. In Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) and Drona (2008), she appeared with her son Abhishek.

She appeared in the Bangladeshi film Meherjaan in 2011 starring Victor Banerjee and Humayun Faridi. In the aftermath of the 1971 Bangladesh atrocities, the film is based on a Bangladesh-Pakistan love tale.

Bachchan was first elected in 2004 as the Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, representing Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha until March 2006. She served for a second term from June 2006 to July 2010, and in February 2010, she stated her intention to finish her term. She was re-elected in 2012 for the third term and then again in 2018 for her fourth term in the Rajya Sabha of Samajwadi Party. During the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, she ran for All India Trinamool Congress.
