Jay Chandrasekhar Career

Career

Chandrasekhar founded the group Broken Lizard, alongside Charred Goosebeak and Beta Theta Pi, people he encountered during college at Colgate University. Chandrasekhar said he discovered his passion for comedy after being active in high school and college. He performed some open mic stand-up comedy in Chicago and founded "Charred Goose Beak" at college, as he formed a sketch group. The company was renamed Broken Lizard after moving to New York.

Chandrasekhar began producing short films starring the troupe and later produced the self-funded film Puddle Cruiser in 1996. In 1997, the film made it to the Sundance Film Festival. They made Super Troopers as an independent film in 2001, but did not end up distributing.

Chandrasekhar's 2005 script The Dukes of Hazzard was directed by Chandrasekhar. Jessica Simpson's debut as an actor was based on a 1970s American television series of the same name. Although the film was financially successful, critics gave it scathing feedback. He has worked as a well-known television comedian, directing episodes of Undeclared, Happy Endings, Chuck, Community, Psych, and Arrested Development. According to him, the earlier a director attends a film, the more impact he or she will have on its appearance and feel.

Chandrasekhar produced The Babymakers in 2012. Several episodes of Blue Mountain State were directed by him. In the 2014 Amazon Original Series, which he wrote and directed, Amazon announced a pilot called Really.

He produced 16 episodes of The Goldbergs between 2014 and 2018.

In June 2018, the filmmaker revealed that he is in talks with Marvel Studios to produce one of their forthcoming films.

Chandrasekhar was announced as the head of the family comedy Easter Sunday, starring Jo Koy, in February 2021.

In a 2009 episode of Psychekhar directed by Chandrasekhar, Chandrasekhar's guest appeared alongside his cousin Sendhil Ramamurthy. In the Jackass: Number Two skit, he appeared as the taxi driver. In the episode "Basic Email Security" of Community, he appeared as racist comedian Gupti Gupta.

Chandrasekhar often performs stand-up comedy, with Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan often appearing on tour with fellow Broken Lizards. His stand-up is a mix of quips and stories.
