Jason Zucker Career

Playing career

Zucker competed in the 2009 World Juniors and 2010 World Juniors for Team USA, winning a gold medal in 2010. He served with Team USA's bronze medal-winning squad at the 2011 World Juniors.

He was the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) Rookie of the Year from 2010-11 and was the second All-Star Team from the University of Denver, and he was also named to the WCHA's Second All-Star Team and second All-Star Team. He had 45 goals and 91 points in 78 games during his two seasons with Denver. Following the 2011-12 season, he made his pro debut.

Zucker was selected in the Minnesota Wilds of the National Hockey League in the second round (59th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft. (NHL). He was the first Nevada-raised draft pick (and, later, player) in NHL history. Zucker joined the Wild on March 27, 2012. In a victory over the Florida Panthers on March 29, 2012, he made his NHL debut in his first appearance in the league. In a Wild victory over the Detroit Red Wings on February 17, 2013, he scored his first NHL goal against Petr Mrazek.

Zucker split time between the Minnesota Wild and the Houston Aeros during the 2012-2013 NHL season. He appeared in 20 Minnesota games during regular season, and spent mainly on the team's second line with Matt Cullen and Devin Setochi.

In the Western Conference quarterfinal series, Zucker scored at 2:15 of the extra period to win the Wild by 3–2 over the Chicago Blackhawks on May 5, 2013.

Zucker underwent successful surgery on his left quadriceps to repair a tendon. He missed the remainder of the 2013–14 season, but he was excited for the 2014–15 campaign.

He scored 21 goals in 51 games over the course of his career in 2014-2015, finishing fifth in the NHL with a 16.9% shooting percentage. He set a Wild team record by scoring ten seconds into a 5–4 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on October 25, 2015 (Zucker later tied his own record in a game against the Colorado Avalanche in April 2017). Bobby Rousseau of Montreal (once in 1962–63, and once in 1965–74) and Yvan Cournoyer are the only two other NHL players to have scored within the first ten seconds of two separate games.

He appeared in a career-high 71 games in 2015-2016, scoring 13 goals and ten assists. In June 2016, the Wild re-signed him to a two-year, $4 million deal.

Zucker set new career highs in 2017-18 by playing in 79 games, totaling 22 goals and 25 assists for 47 points. He finished sixth in team scoring.

Zucker earned his first NHL hat-trick against the Montreal Canadiens on November 9, 2017. Zucker, P. K. Subban, and the Sedin brothers were among the finalist for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy on May 2, 2018.

Zucker signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract extension with the Wild on July 25, 2018. In a home overtime loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on October 13, 2018, Zucker scored his 100th NHL goal. He is the seventh Minnesota Wild player to reach 100 goals with the team. Zucker was named recipient of the 2018-19 King Clancy Memorial Trophy as "the player who best exemplifies leadership abilities on and off the track, as well as his outstanding charitable work in his community."

He had 132 goals (4th on the Wild's all-time list), 111 assists, and 243 points (9th) in his career with the Wild in 456 NHL games (19th on the Wild's all-time list).

Zucker was traded by the Wild to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk, Calen Addison, and a conditional first round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft on February 10, 2020 (condition within the trade later converted the pick to a first round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft). Zucker has been with the Penguins for three years, from the 1920-22-23 season, for an average annual value of $5.5 million.

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 4, 2024
On Tuesday night, Arizona Coyotes forward Jason Zucker would face three games after an unlawful check into Florida Panthers enforcer Nick Cousins' boards. Cousins sent Juuso Valimaki of Arizona a questionable, but unsupervised check. Zucker sought him out without a ball cap and delivered a full-force assault to the boards, with the most noticeable point of contact being between Cousins' jersey numbers from behind.
