Jason Kenney Life

Jason Thomas Kenney PC MLA (born May 30, 1968) is a Canadian politician currently serving as the 18th Premier of Alberta and the First Minister of the United Conservative Party in Alberta, who has been elected since 2019.

He was the last leader of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta until the party's merger with the Wildrose Party and subsequent dissolution later this year.

In a by-election held on December 14, 2017, he was named Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Lougheed. He served in the riding of Calgary Midnapore in the House of Commons from 1997 to 2016 (known as Calgary Southeast until 2015).

Kenney was first elected as a member of Canada's Reform Party in 2000 and later re-elected four times as the candidate of Canada's Conservative Party of Canada. Kenney was named Parliamentary Secretary for Canada by the Conservative government following the 2006 general election.

On January 4, 2007, he was elected to the Privy Council as the Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity.

Kenney served as Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism from October 30, 2008, to July 15, 2013, when he became Minister of Work and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism.

He was named Minister of National Defence on February 9, 2015.

Following the fall of the Conservative government in October 2015 and Stephen Harper's resignation as Prime Minister in 2016, Kenney declared himself a potential party leader.

Kenney resigned his seat in Parliament on September 23, 2016, after being in the House of Commons for 19 years.

On March 18, 2017, he was elected leader of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party, a centrist-minded group that mainly exists in Alberta.

He served as leader until the unification was announced on July 24, 2017, and he was elected United Conservative Party leader on October 28, 2017. Kenney led the United Conservative Party to majority government in the 2019 Alberta general election, defeating the previous government led by Rachel Notley of the New Democratic Party with 63 seats and 54.8 percent of the popular vote and only the fifth change of government in Alberta's political history.

Jason Kenney's premiership began on April 30, 2019, with Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Lois Mitchell, joining the 30th Alberta Legislature and becoming the 18th Premier of Alberta.

Jason Kenney Career

Early life and career

Jason Thomas Kenney was born in Oakville, Ontario, on May 30, 1968, the son of Lynne (Tunbridge) and Robert Martin Kenney. His father, who was of Irish origins, was a teacher at Appleby College and was of Irish descent. Mart Kenney's grandfather, a jazz musician and a big band leader, was a member of Kenney's Kenney family.

Kenney attended the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, a private Catholic high school of which his father was president. Following a brief chat with former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, Kenney may have been prompted to enter politics.

Kenney completed his undergraduate studies at the University of San Francisco, California. He came from there that conservatism was born. Kenney was interviewed by CNN for a segment on religious values during his stay in California. He argued against Jesuit professors who said that free expression was vital to a university in the segment, where he was credited as "Jason Kenny – Anti-abortion Activist." Kenney argued that welcoming pro-choice activists on campus was "destroying the mission and the purpose of this university." In the school newspaper, San Francisco Foghorn, he suggested that giving a platform to pro-choice groups would mean that the school had no reason to refuse a similar platform to pedophiles or the Church of Satan.

Kenney's petition was turned down by the Archbishop this summer, and he never recovered to finish his undergraduate degree. Kenney, on the other hand, returned to Canada to begin working for the Saskatchewan Liberal Party. He was "very interested in the youth Liberal movement" as a youth and served as executive assistant to Ralph Goodale, then-primary leader of the provincial party at the time, and spent 1988 as executive assistant to him. Kenney was hired as the first executive director of the Alberta Taxpayers Association, which argued for fiscal responsibility only a few years ago. Kenney was elected president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a self-described taxpayer's advocacy group that scrutinizes government spending from a conservative perspective in 1990.
