Jason Castro Life

Jason René Castro (born March 25, 1987) is an American acoustic/folk-pop singer and songwriter.

On season seven of American Idol, he was the fourth place finalist.

He signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records, and his self-titled debut album was released on April 13, 2010.

Early years

Castro was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Rowlett, Texas. René and Betsy Castro, his parents, are Colombians and have two other children, Michael and Jackie. René, their father, is an architectural swimming pool designer.

He was a left winger on his school's soccer team and an honor student at Rowlett High School. On his SAT, he scored a 1340 out of 1600. When he auditioned for American Idol, Castro was a junior majoring in Construction Science at Texas A&M University in College Station on a complete academic scholarship.

Since being in high school in his senior year, Castro has been wearing dreadlocks. He shaved his dreadlocks and has since shaved his hair much shorter in 2014, in a sign of a spiritual awakening.

Castro appeared as a drummer with Charlemagne, which later became Keeping Lions. Ray LaMontagne, Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Carlos Vives, and Kirk Baxley have all played a role in his musical influences, according to him.

Personal life

Castro appeared on Cheyenne Kimball's MTV reality show Cheyenne, and she was also included in her music video for "Hanging On."

Castro proposed to Mandy Mayhall, his girlfriend of a year and a half, on October 31, 2009. They were classmates in high school and began dating in 2008. In Castro's music video for "Let's Just Fall in Love Again," Mayhall made a cameo.

Castro and Mayhall were married in Dallas on January 2, 2010. The couple have five children.

When a former Castro fansite mistakenly stated that Castro's charity was GLOW Ministries, the group based in Zeeland, Michigan, received a lot of donations and support for their cause.

Rene Castro, Castro's father, had been instrumental in the establishment of a soccer ministry at Lake Pointe Church to reach out to the community. Jason played soccer in high school and has traveled to Russia three times with the Higher Goal Soccer Ministry.

Castro appeared alongside Patti LaBelle at a Christmas concert in Garland, Texas, benefiting the Best Education Foundation, a charity that supports the city's school district. Thanks to the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares, he also sold himself off for charity.
