Jason Blum Career

Career

Blum worked with Bob and Harvey Weinstein as an executive at Miramax and later as an independent producer for Paramount Pictures. Blum, the production director of Ethan Hawke's Malaparte theater company, worked before his time at Miramax. Blum, a 1991 graduate of Vassar College, is a 1991 undergraduate. He is a member of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' board of trustees.

After receiving a letter from family friend, entertainer Steve Martin, who endorsed the film, he obtained financing for his first film as producer, Kicking and Screaming (1995). Blum attached the letter to a copy of the script he sent to Hollywood executives.

Blumhouse Productions, which specializes in producing micro-budget films that give directors complete creative control over the projects, was established in 2000. Blum was praised by Bloomberg News for creating "blockbusters for pennies," including the horror film Paranormal Activity, which cost $15,000 to make and then grossed almost $200 million. In addition, NPR's Planet Money produced a special podcast on the company's methods.

Insidious (2010), Sinister (2012), The Purge (2013), and Happy Death Day (2017), as well as their sequels, were all produced by Blum. He was executive producer of the television film The Normal Heart, which went on to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Film in 2014. For HBO's The Jinx, he received an Emmy Award in 2015.

BlacKlansman, Whiplash, and Get Out were all nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture on Blum's feature films.

In an interview with Blum in 2018 that the reason why no woman had ever directed one of his horror films was that "there aren't a lot of female directors (...) and even less who are prone to horror." Following a lot of backlash on social media, in which lists of such directors were posted, he apologised for his "dumb remarks." Sophia Takal produced and co-wrote Black Christmas' horror film, which opened on December 13, and was the studio's first theatrically released film by a female director.

Blum, one of a group of high-profile investors who bought W magazine, a struggling fashion journal, was listed on August 14, 2020.

Taylor Swift's Eras concert film forces The Exorcist: Believer to MOVE its October release date as producer quips: 'Look what you made me do!'

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 1, 2023
The Exorcist: Believer, Taylor Swift's forthcoming tour documentary, prompted the makers of the horror film to reschedule their release date. Following the announcement on Thursday that the 33-year-old hitmaker's Eras Tour documentary would be showing in theaters on spooky day October 13, the same day as the Exorcist, the film's date was quickly changed to avoid an overlap. On October 6th, the Exorcist is expected to perform in theaters around the world. In reaction to the change, Jason Blum, a film producer, had the perfect quip.

An indepth look at the recent horror film Skinamarink, which is being lauded as one of the "most'scariest films ever made.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 3, 2023
Skinamarink's latest experimental horror film is making a lot of buzz on the internet, with some referring to it as the "scariest film ever made" and others admitting that it made them terrified for days and reignited their fears of the dark. The film, directed by Kyle Edward Ball, follows two children, four-year-old Kevin and six-year-old Kaylee, who awakened in the middle of the night to find that their parents are dead and that the windows and doors in their house have vanished. Over the course of the one-hour-40-minute horror movie, strange and scary things begin to happen in the house: furniture disappears and reappears, toys move on their own, and children begin to cry, leading to the children and the audience's inability to determine what's real and what isn't. The film, according to an inexperienced commentator, it's a 'waking nightmare,' meaning that it creates a 'atmosphere of dread,' while Inverse praised it as the'scariest movie of all time.' The film, which has already grossed over $1.5 million at the box office, was shot in Ball's childhood home and cost just $15,000 to produce.
