Janet Marie Gretzky (née Jones; born January 10, 1961) is an American actress.
Wayne Gretzky, a retired ice hockey Hall of Famer, is married to her.
Early life and education
Janet Marie Jones, the daughter of a business executive, was born in Bridgeton, Missouri. She attended Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Personal life
Jones, who was affiliated with Vitas Gerulaitis from 1985 to 1987, first met Gretzky while he was a judge on Dance Fever in 1984. They met again at a Los Angeles Lakers game in 1987, and on July 16, 1988, they married in a lavish ceremony at St. Joseph's Basilica that was broadcast live across Canada. Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on August 9, the eighth edition of the Los Angeles Kings. Jones' career was supposed to be one of the motivations behind the contract, according to one of the parties. Jones denied this in "Kings Ransom," saying she would not have allowed herself to be "barefoot and pregnant for the next eight years" if she wanted to pursue her career. Paulina, Ty Robert, Trevor Douglas, Tristan Wayne, and Emma Marie are among her five children. Paulina was on the Canadian front page of the Flare (magazine) in August 2005, seventeen years after Janet appeared on the front page, making them the first mother-daughter to appear on Flare Magazine's front page.
On August 18, 2013, Paulina and Dustin Johnson announced their engagement. Ty played hockey at Shattuck-Saint Mary's. In the 2011 MLB draft, Trevor was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. Matt Scioscia, the son of Angels' manager Mike Scioscia, was traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on March 20, 2014. He was activated to the Orem Owls' roster in June 2014.
When appearing on Dance Fever, Vanna White introduced Merv Griffin, leading White to her long-term participation as a host on Wheel of Fortune.
Entertainment career
In 1979, Jones first appeared on Merv Griffin's syndicated US television program Dance Fever, and later as a member of the dance team Move, choreographing routines with the show's host, Deney Terrio. Jones appeared in Annie (1982), Staying Alive (1983) and Snow White Live (1980), as well as a little part in The Beastmaster (1982). Grease 2 (1982), she appeared in only a small way in the musical comedy. Jones appeared on the television game show The Price Is Right on April 4, 1983. Her big break came in The Flamingo Kid (1984), which was followed by the film version of A Chorus Line (1985). She appeared on American Anthem, co-starring gymnast Mitch Gaylord, and in 1987, she appeared on the front page and in a semi-nude pictorial in Playboy's March issue.
Other credits include 1988's Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach and the baseball film A League of Their Own (1992) with Geena Davis, Rosie O'Donnell, and Madonna.
For a fitness video made by The FIRM, Jones appeared as both the host and the "master instructor" for an infomercial. In the film Alpha Dog, she and her daughter Paulina were included.
She appeared in a 1986 television commercial endorsing Jones Sausage, as well as other people who shared her last name.
