Jane Taylor Career

Career

When Johnnie Walker decided to play the first track from an album named Montpelier, which Jane had doodled herself), she became a national radio presenter. The listeners' reaction was both high and curious for an 'unknown' artist. Despite not being on the playlist, Johnnie Walker performed the song more than 15 times, and the show invited Taylor into the studio to perform a live session on the show.

Montpelier's first album had been produced on a shoestring, in a barn, with all production costs covered by pre-selling the album to her faithful fan base (which she had inherited from Bristol). In a freezing October, Taylor, producer Bill Lovelady, and her band recorded the album in nine days. Once it was made, she simply posted it on BBC Radio 2 and crossed her fingers.

She was invited to appear live on the BBC to film a reaction to the airplay. From there, she continued to assist Jools Holland, Bill Wyman, Seth Lakeman, Paul Buchanan, Andy Fairweather Low, and Paulo Nutini. She has signed a distribution contract, had "Fall on Me" on MTV, and toured the United Kingdom and Germany, spreading the word and connecting her music to even more people.

Taylor's second album, Compass, was financially sponsored by two female fans of her music, whom Taylor now refers to as 'The Angels.' Taylor had never met her benefactors before, but they are now friends. In Sheffield's Yellow Arch Studios, she produced the album with Mercury nominated producer Colin Elliot (famous for his work on the Richard Hawley albums).

The Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band (who appeared in the film Brassed Off), a gospel choir made up of some of Bristol and Bath's finest songwriters and performers, as well as classical string arrangements from her resident band Robin Davies, Bethany Porter, and Fears Heatherington.

Compass's tracks were broadcast on BBC Radio 2 as a result. In the 2010 Independent Music Awards, the album received the Best Album in the Folk / Singer-Songwriter category.

She had booked a concert at St George's Hall, Bristol, which had been sold out, after taking some time out to give birth to her son. Lizz Lipscombe on violin, Robert Bray on percussion and uke, Robin Davies on double bass, and Kate Robey on cello were among Taylor's invited performers to perform on stage. Alphonse Daudet Touna, singer-songwriter Roger Tarry, The JT Brass Players (Andy Davies, Matt Davies, and Chris Sanders) and the Barefoot Collective and Original Sing choirs were among other notable guests. The concert was a hit, and Bristol's Venue Magazine named it one of the top three shows in the South West for 2010. In November 2011, the concert was released as Live Album. Taylor's latest single, "Oh December," was released in December 2011.

Taylor continues to perform live with her band and tour under her own independent label Bicycle Records. She is aided by her fan base, who in 2010 raised over £9000 to help her advertise her work and fund her tours.

"Without the people who buy my music and support the gigs and concerts, I would never have gotten this far." At times, being an independent artist making the kind of music I do, and competing with the more popular and larger brands can be quite overwhelming. But then I'll get an amazing email from someone who is connected with the music or have the most positive feedback after a show, and I can't imagine doing anything else!"

Jane Taylor

"Classic, timeless songwriting." A quintessentially English Gem."

Time Out

"Beautiful" is the word that comes to mind.

Johnnie Walker, BBC Radio 2

"A very talented painter."

Kate Middleton and Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh are friends in fashion: 10 times they dressed in matching outfits

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 16, 2024
The Princess of Wales and Duchess of Edinburgh are said to have a strong relationship, which can be expressed in their fashion choices. The similarities in their attire, from trouser suits to matching dresses, show a remarkable bond that goes beyond personal style. Sophie has mirrored Kate's sartorial choices on several occasions, including state occasions and more informal appearances, despite their 17-year age gap.

Sophie, the royals' 'unique weapon,' has developed to be a true fashion head turner. Here, as she approaches her 59th birthday, we have compiled a list of the 59 best outfits that please royal watchers

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 20, 2024
Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh, who turns 59 today, has transformed from a publicity girl to a respected member of the Royal Family. Sophie's later became the late Queen's favorite daughter-in-law, with a refined and understated style. And since joining the firm, her appearance has changed. Sophie Rhys-Jones was a hotshot PR girl on Capital Radio before establishing RJH Public Relations in 1996. Prince Edward and Sophie are said to have met in the late 1980s and then cross paths in 1993 while Sophie was attending a promotional shoot for the Prince Edward Summer Challenge. The two began dating shortly after the prince's appearance, but it will be another five years before the prince popped the question.

A tiara without the diamonds! Why royal women banded together over this one vital piece of headgear

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 2, 2024
'Wow, you look so different without one! 'My friend blurted out the other day.' We'd been chatting as I took off my headband to re arrange the way it sat on my head. And she was right! For me, not wearing an Alice band is like how others look without make-up or perfume: a little bit... naked. Why? Perhaps because I share a name with their original wearer. The Alice band is one of John Tenniel's illustrations for Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is credited to the term Alice band. They work, and royal women seem to believe so. When they gathered again at Sandringham this year, it was a veritable sea of headbands.
