James Veitch Career

Career

Veitch appeared on the 2006 film Papa Joe and as a digital intermediate conform artist on the 2008 film Middle of Nowhere. Veitch turned John Keats' writings into a play for Keats House in 2009.

As part of the arts industry showcase WINDOW, Veitch's first solo comedy performance, The Fundamental Interconnectedness of Everyone with an Internet Connection, was unveiled in Brighton Fringe in May 2014. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe was held in August. It concerned scam emails, Veitch's amusing responses to them, and the Internet's nature. The show was described by the Sunday Herald as "topically brilliant comedy." "Near-constant belly laughs" were the topic of a down-the-face parody, as well as The Scotsman. Genius Bar was his next Edinburgh Fringe performance, and he was on display at his Edinburgh Fringe show in 2015. In 2015, Veitch published Dot Con: The Art of Scamming a Scammer. Veitch's "absurdist approach and enthusiasm for his work made for unpredictably funny reading," a Kirkus Reviews article said.

He has made two appearances on Conan's talk show. In 2015 and 2016, Veitch gave three TED talks. One chronicles Veitch's experience with a supermarket chain's marketing emails, while the other two are concerned with scam emails. On YouTube, Veitch also introduced the Mashable video series "Scamalot." Alice Jones of The Independent said that "Veitch has found a nerdy niche in his satisfaction with his humorous lectures about modern technology." He appeared at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2018 (Allstars Supershow). Veitch was a guest presenter on Trivia's live trivia game show. Veitch was the host of the Britannia Awards for the first year in 2019. On BBC Radio 4, James Veitch's Contractual Obligation is a humorous investigative journalism series. James Veitch: Straight to VHS, his comedy special, was released on HBO Max in August 2020.

More than a dozen women who attended Sarah Lawrence College with Veitch came forward on September 1st in 2020, ranging from emotional harassment to rape. When approached by Hollywood Reporter, Veitch refused to comment on the allegations, "but a source close to him denies all charges." The comedy special on HBO was later removed from its subscription service. Veitch's agent was fired and edited out of a Quibi performance where he was supposed to host. Although the BBC initially planned to hold Contractual Obligation on BBC Sounds, it was taken down in early September.
