James Rebhorn Life

James Robert Rebhorn (September 1, 1948 – March 21, 2014) was an American character actor who appeared in over 100 films, television series, and plays.

He had appeared in the series White Collar and Homeland as a child at the time of his death.

He has appeared in films including Scent of a Woman, Carlito's Way, Independence Day, My Cousin Vinny, and Meet the Parents.

Early life

Rebhorn was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the son of Ardell Frances (née Hoch) and James Harry Rebhorn, an industrial engineer and salesman. He was of German descent. Rebhorn came from Anderson, Indiana, as an infant and graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1966. He attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he concentrated on political science.

He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity while serving there. Richard S. Huffman was one of his teachers and he was directed by him in a lead role in Aristophanes' Lysistrata as well as Molière's Tricks of Scapin. Rebhorn earned a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Columbia University's School of the Arts in 1970 and joined the metropolitan theater scene in New York City.

Career

In 1974, the Peterborough Players were Free at the Butterflies Are Free. In Forty Carats, Rebhorn played Peter Latham, a 1970s comedian at the GasLight Dinner Theatre in Salt Lake City. He was known for portraying WASP stereotypes, lawyers, politicians, physicians, and military guys, as well as depicting criminals as being involved or accountable for criminal conduct.

He had a strong presence in a variety of other roles, including that of a ferocious serial killer on NBC's Law & Order (1994), Fred Waters in Blank Check (1994), and a shipping magnate in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999).

In the 1996 film Independence Day, where he played Secretary of Defense Albert Nimzicki, one of his finest appearances. He appeared in Scent of a Woman (1992) and appeared as an expert witness in My Cousin Vinny (1992). The following year, he appeared in Carlito's Way as an obsessive district attorney. In the 1994 film Guarding Tess, Rebhorn played an FBI Agent.

Rebhorn appeared on television, including Bradley Raines on the soap opera Guiding Light from 1983 to 1985, as well as an abusive father, Henry Lange on sister soap As the World Turns from 1988 to 1991. John Brady, a Texas native who worked from 1981 to 1982, was one of his daytime duties.

In 1991, he appeared in the television film/pilot Plymouth as Ezra. Together with Christopher Walken (1993), he appeared in Madonna's film "Bad Girl" for her single "Bad Girl" (1994). Mr. McFlemp, in 1994, appeared in an episode of Nickelodeon's "Farewell, My Little Viking" as Mr. McFlemp.

In 1998, he appeared as the District Attorney in Seinfeld's two-part series finale. He appeared in supporting roles in Henry, The Game, The Gifted Mr. Ripley, and Meet the Parents. Bill Arnot, a Democrat, appeared in the Chris Rock film Head of State in 2003 as Senator Bill Arnot. He appeared in the television miniseries Reversible Errors in 2004. He was cast as the father of the title character in the short-lived and controversial NBC drama The Book of Daniel. Rebhorn appeared on White Collar from 2009 to 2013.

Rebhorn appeared in the showtime series Homeland as Frank Mathison, the father of the series's main character Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes, beginning in 2011. Like Danes' character, his character suffered from bipolar disorder. Frank, on the other hand, was able to get it under control and became very efficient on a daily basis with the right dosing of drugs, and he would often recommend Carrie to do the same. Rebhorn died in 2014, and his character was also devolving in the film. He was dedicated to him in Homeland's season 4 finale.

In 2004, he appeared on Broadway as Juror 4 in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Twelve Angry Men at the American Airlines Theatre.

In Baby Mama, Rebhorn appeared as a judge. Rebhorn played a NASA scientist in the film The Box. Special Agent Reese Hughes appeared on the show White Collar as a regular character. In 2010, Rebhorn appeared on the Comedy Central sitcom Big Lake. In the film Real Steel, he appeared as Max Kenton's uncle in 2011. In the miniseries Coma, he appeared as Oren. In the 2012 Mike Birbiglia comedy Sleepwalk with Me, Rebhorn appeared as Gary Pandamiglio.

In "Leap of Faith," the 13th episode of CBS' police procedural drama Blue Bloods' second season, he appeared in 2012. In 2013, he co-starred in The Perfect Wedding. His stage career included seven Broadway plays as well as numerous appearances with the New York City Roundabout Theatre Company.
