James Harden Life

James Edward Harden Jr. (born August 26, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

In 2009, he played for basketball for Arizona State, where he was named a consensus All-American and Pac-10 Player of the Year.

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Harden with the third overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

He was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year by the Thunder in 2012 and helped the Thunder advance to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in five games. Harden was drafted to Houston before the 2012–13 NBA season.

During his time with the Rockets, he became one of NBA's top shooting guards and was praised as one of the best shooting guard in the NBA as well as one of the top overall players in the league.

Harden led the league in scoring in 2018 and was named NBA Most Valuable Player.

He has been a seven-time NBA All-Star, and has received All-NBA Team awards six times, including five times to the first team. Harden is a two-time member of the United States national basketball team, winning gold medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Personal life

Harden is the youngest of three children. Their mother suffered with a string of miscarriages prior to her son's birth, after that of his older sister. Harden is a Christian. "I just want to thank God for all he has done in my life," he has expressed about his faith. In 2009, Harden began growing his signature beard after being too sedent to shave. His beard has appeared on televisions and T-shirts, and it has earned him an honor and a special candy with Trolli's, where a representation of his face and beard was seen on each gummy.

Adidas, a sports clothing company, presented Harden with an endorsement contract worth $200 million over the next 13 years on August 3, 2015. Harden became a member of Houston's professional soccer teams on July 18, 2019; the Houston Dynamo of MLS; and the Houston Dash of NWSL. "Houston is my home now, and I saw this as a way to invest in my city and also extend my company interests at the same time," Harden said.

Daryl Morey, the Houston Rockets' general manager, sent a tweet on October 4, 2019, which supports the 2019-20 Hong Kong protests. The Chinese Basketball Association's suspension of its partnership with the Houston Rockets was a result of Morey's tweet. "We regret," Harden said of China later. "We love China."

Harden was named first-team All-Pac-10 and was named to the conference all-freshman team after his freshman year. The NABC and the USBWA also named him first team All-District by the NABC and the USBWA. Professional career

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Harden with the third overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft. During the 2009–2010 season, he posted his fourth best 3-point percentage for a player under the age of 21 (minimum of 150 attempts). He scored seven straight 3-point field goals in two games (November 18 and 20, respectively), his highest single 3-point field goals since Houston guard Michael Dickerson's appearance in May 1999. On December 7, 2009, he scored a season-high 26 points against the Golden State Warriors. At the end of the season, he was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

He scored 10-plus points on 54 occasions during the 2010–11 season, including a season-high 26 points against the Phoenix Suns on March 6, 2011.

In 62 games (two starts), Harden averaged 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, as he received the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award.

In all but four of his appearances this season, Harden scored in double figures. On April 18, 2012, he scored a season-high 40 points against Phoenix, becoming the first NBA player in a reserve role to score 40 points since Dallas guard Rodrigue Beaubois in March 2010. Harden helped the Thunder advance to the 2012 NBA Finals, where the Miami Heat defeated them in five games.

Oklahoma City tried to attract Harden to a four-year contract extension worth between $52 and $55 million during the 2012 free agency period. Harden argued that he was given too little time to consider the offer later.

Harden was traded to the Houston Rockets on October 27, 2012, alongside Daequan Cook, Cole Aldrich, and Lazar Hayward in exchange for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, two first round picks (which became Steven Adams in 2013 and Mitch McGary in 2014), and a second round pick (which became lueth Abrines in 2013). Despite previously only playing a supporting role behind Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey called Harden a "foundational" player and expected him to be Houston's most versatile player. Harden signed a five-year deal with the Rockets on October 31, 2012.

In a 105-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons, he became the first NBA player to score 37 or more points in his team debut, while still racking 37 points. He was his fourth NBA player to reach those numbers in a single game and tied for the third-highest point total for a NBA player in his rookie season (most for the Rockets). He scored 45 points against the Atlanta Hawks two days later. His 82 total points were the most scored by a player in his first two games with a team in NBA history, beating Wilt Chamberlain's record of 79 points in his first two games with the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959. In his first season with Houston, Harden had one of the best statistical seasons in team history. He averaged 25.9 points (fifth best in the NBA), 4.9 rebounds, and 5.8 assists in 78 games, becoming just the fifth player in team history to reach 2,000 points in a single campaign (2,023 points). He set a new record for free throws made in a season (630 FTM in 1981–82), making Malone the only two Rockets players to reach 600 free throws made in a single season. Harden was a member of Gilbert Arenas (2005-06 and 2006–07), Kobe Bryant (2005–06 and 2007–08) and Jerry Stackhouse (2000–01) as the only four NBA players to earn at least 600 free throws made and hit 150 or more 3-pointers in a season. As the only Rockets to ever win Player of the Week awards three or more times in a season, Tracy McGrady (four times in 2004–05) and Hakeem Olajuwon (three times in 1992–93). He was selected to the 2012–13 All-NBA Third Team for his first All-NBA Team pick, but he was the seventh player in Rockets history to earn All-NBA accolades.

The head coaches had chosen Harden as a reserve for the 2014 NBA All-Star Game, his second straight All-Star pick. He was later announced as a replacement starter for the All-Star Game, where he had eight points, five assists, one rebound, and one steal in 23:46 minutes of action. During the week, he was twice named Western Conference Player of the Week, and both appeared in consecutive weeks (February 24 – March 3–9). He was the first Rockets player to earn Player of the Week recognition for three weeks in a row. Harden made his first appearance in NBA history on two or fewer field goals (2–9 FG), finishing with a career-best 22-of-25 from the stripe and tied for single-game records (22–27 FT by Sleepy Floyd in February 1991). Harden played in his 120th game with Houston, scoring 23 points on 12-for-12 from the foul line to become just the third player to score at least 3,000 points in his first 120 games with the Rockets, joining Elvin Hayes (3,320) and Tracy McGrady (3,056). In a game that Wilt Chamberlain had 53 points, 32 rebounds, and 14 assists for Philadelphia in March 1968, he became the first player to have at least 33 points, 17 rebounds, and 14 assists. In a 115-104 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on January 24, he had his second triple-double of the season, with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. Despite Harden's 51 points, the Rockets were defeated 122-116 by the Los Angeles Lakers on December 20, snapping their 14-game winning streak. It was his fourth 50-point game of the season, and it exceeded his previous record of 56 points set against Utah in November. With 18 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds in three quarters, he helped the Rockets win 60 victories in a season for the first time in franchise history, 35th of career) in an 118-99 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The Rockets were ranked No. 5 in the regular season during the regular season. With a franchise-best 65–17 record, 1 seed makes it to the first time in franchise history, winning the 1st title in franchise history. He had 43 points, ten rebounds, and 12 assists in three quarters on January 11, leading the Rockets to a 141-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. With at least five points, he also made eight 3-pointers to lift his NBA record to 12 games in a row. It was Harden's 13th game of the season with 40 points, surpassing Malone's franchise record and seventh in the previous nine games, as he continued to lead the team with Paul and Eric Gordon out with injuries.
