James Gunn Life

James Francis Gunn Jr. (born August 5, 1966) is an American filmmaker and singer.

Beginning his career as a screenwriter in the mid-1990s, he wrote the scripts for Tromeo and Juliet (1996), Scooby-Doo (2002), and its sequel, Scooby-Doo (2005), as well as the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead.

Gunn began as a producer, starting with the horror-comedy film Slither (2006).

He wrote and directed the web series PG Porn (2008–09), James Gunn's superhero film Super (2010), and Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

2 (2017).

Early life

James Francis Gunn, Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents James F. Gunn, an advocate, and Leota "Lee" (Hynek). He was born in St. Louis and Manchester, Missouri. He has five siblings: actor Sean, actor and political writer Matt, screenwriter Brian, Patrick, and Beth. His father was from an Irish immigrant family. Gunn has claimed that his family's surname was originally the Irish word MacGilgunn and that it means "sons to the servants of the god of the dead"; it actually means "son of the beige one." Despite being of partial Jewish descent, Gunn was raised Catholic.

Gunn was inspired by low-budget films such as Night of the Living Dead and Friday the 13th. He read Fangoria and attended genre movie screenings, including the original Dawn of the Dead at the Tivoli Theatre in St. Louis. He started making 8 mm zombie films with his brothers in the woods near their house at the age of 12.

Gunn and his siblings attended Jesuit St. Louis University High School, where he graduated in 1984. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Louis University. Gunn produced weekly political cartoons for the school's student, according to The University News. "I went to two years undergraduate film school at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles at an unspecified time in his college career," Gunn said. But I was really screwed up at the time and had to leave, so I was compelled to leave. Years later, I went to graduate school at the Columbia University School of Fine Arts, but not film writing. In 1995, he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University.

Personal life

On October 7, 2000, Gunn married actress Jenna Fischer. In a joint statement on September 5, 2007, Gunn and Fischer announced their divorce after seven years of marriage, which was divorced in 2008. The two people remained friends. In Gunn's film Super in 2010, Fischer requested that Rainn Wilson, her co-star on The Office, be cast in Rainn Wilson.

Since 2015, Gunn has been in a long-term friendship with actress Jennifer Holland. Holland and Gunn got engaged in February 2022 and married in September 2022.

Gunn was raised in a Roman Catholic family and has described how prayer plays a vital role in his life, but has also said he is "anti-religion."

James Gunn Career

Career

Gunn formed The Icons in 1989, as the lead vocalist while living in St. Louis. In the film Tromeo and Juliet, the company released Mom, We Like It Here On Earth in 1994, and the group's songs "Sunday" and "Walking Naked" were included. In the mid-1990s, the Icons were disbanded. Gunn has continued to work in music, writing songs for Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo, and Movie 43.

Gunn started his filmmaking with Troma Entertainment in 1995, which also produced the independent film Tromeo and Juliet. Gunn's co-founder, Lloyd Kaufman, learned how to write screenplays, produce films, scout locations, film distributors, and produce his own poster art. Gunn wrote, produced, and appeared in the Troma film The Specials, directed by Craig Mazin and starring Rob Lowe, Thomas Haden Church, Paget Brewster, Judy Greer, and Jamie Kennedy.

Scooby-Doo, Gunn's first major Hollywood screenplay, was released in 2002. He wrote the screenplays for Dawn of the Dead's remake and the sequel Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004. Gunn became the first screenwriter to have two films top the box office in a row. He produced and starred in the mockumentary LolliLove, directed by and starring his then-wife Jenna Fischer in the same year. His film directorial debut was the 2006 horror film Slither, which was included on Rotten Tomatoes' list of the Top Ever Reviewed Horror Movies.

The comedy short film "Humanizee" was among Gunn's forthcoming projects. It was originally intended for the Xbox Live horror film series of short comedy films by horror creators and was replaced by "Sparky and Mikaela," which premiered on Xbox Live on December 31, 2008. Gunn talked about "Sparky and Mikaela" in a Jace Hall Show interview in April 2009 as "about a human [and] racoon crime fighting team, and they fight crime in both the forest world, among the furry creatures, and in the human world." PG Porn's James Gunn also has a short-form web series for Spike.com titled James Gunn's PG Porn.

Gunn appeared on the VH1 reality television show Scream Queens, where ten unknown actresses compete for a role in the film Saw VI.

Gunn announced in 2009 that he would write and direct Pets, a comedy about a man who is kidnapped by aliens who want to turn him into a household pet. However, Gunn announced, "Pets sadly is done" by March 2009. I'm gone. For various reasons, I ended the project. I hope it makes it to the light of day someday, but it won't be without me as director."

Rainn Wilson and Elliot Page appeared in Super, a dark comedy and superhero satire starring Rainn Wilson and Elliot Page in 2010. Elizabeth Banks and Josh Duhamel appeared in an episode of the 2013 comedy anthology film Movie 43 (2013). The film was widely panned.

Gunn co-wrote and directed the Marvel Studios adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy, which was released on August 1, 2014. Sean Kelly, Sean's brother, appears in the film. Gunn has performed in smaller roles or uncredited appearances in his own films, mainly in smaller roles or uncredited performances. In part, Gunn replied in a Facebook post after Dan Gilroy and Jack Black separately condemned the proliferation of superhero films, adding in part:

Gunn wrote and directed The Belko Experiment, the horror film that was released in 2017. In 2016, he supervised three Stan Lee cameo scenes for the film Doctor Strange and two unveiled projects.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. Gunn wrote and directed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2nd (2017) Gunn was supposed to control Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. In July 2018, the three children were born in July 2018, but Disney severed links with Gunn as the director before the venture was launched due to controversies surrounding off-color jokes he had tweeted. After a mass public appeal in March 2019, Gunn was reinstated, with some arguing he was the reason for the previous films' success.

After the initial director Gavin O'Connor was unable to respond due to scheduling conflicts, Gunn was hired to write a completely new script for the DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad in October 2018. He was officially named in January 2019 as the head of The Suicide Squad. He wrote, directed, and produced the spin-off television series for the film based on John Cena's character Peacemaker. Gunn will also co-produce and co-produce a live-action/animated film titled Coyote vs. Acme, based on Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote, which was also based on Looney Tunes' character Wile E. Coyote. Coyote. Amanda Waller is also executive-producing a Peacemaker spin-off centered on Amanda Waller, with Christal Henry writing and Viola Davis reprising her role from previous DCEU projects. In addition, Gunn is writing and directing another DC project. Gunn has been active in a number of other DC projects, including a television series.

As he was appointed co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios in October 2022, he deepened his connections with Washington, D.C. (with Peter Safran). He will be in charge of most film, television, and animated projects from this position; the only exception as of date will be Warner Bros. co-chairman Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.

Gunn wrote a book in 2000 called The Toy Collector, about a hospital orderly who steals drugs from the hospital that he sells to help keep his toy collection hobby alive. In 1998, he and Troma's President Lloyd Kaufman co-wrote All You Need to Know About Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger.

He wrote the story for Grasshopper Manufacture's video game Lollipop Chainsaw, which was produced by game designer Suda 51.

Commentator Mike Cernovich drew attention to controversies surrounding pedophilia and the Holocaust in July 2018, reacting to Gunn's public sluggish remarks against Donald Trump. Disney severed ties with Gunn as the host of the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. amid criticism of the tweets. Gunn responded to a three-film film at the time: "I've regretted [those jokes] for many years." [...] Regardless of how much time has passed, I fully understand and accept the company's decisions taken today. And now, many years later, I accept full responsibility for the way I conducted myself back then. All I can do now [is offer] my sincere and sincere regret [...] [...] I send my deepest regrets to everyone within and outside my industry.

After a meeting with Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, Gunn was reinstated by Disney as the film's director in March 2019. Gunn began production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. In October 2021, the Suicide Squad had been assembled, with three Suicide Squad members completing.

Gunn and Peter Safran had consulted David Zaslav, the CEO of the newly formed Warner Bros. During his hunt for a new head of DC Films, he discovered this. The two people tempted Zaslav to appoint them as the co-chairpersons and CEOs of DC Films, who were rebranded as "DC Studios" in honor of DC Comics' characters.
