Jacob Alexander Roper (born January 25, 1987) is an American internet celebrity best known for his hosting of the Vsauce3 YouTube channel, which is part of YouTube's brand Vsauce.

Jake creates stories about fictional worlds, video games, and science.

On his website, Roper also has a personal side channel named "Jake Roper" and regularly hosts on other Vsauce network channels, including DONG (originally: Do Online Now, Guys) and the group channel WeSauce.

Personal life

Roper was born on January 25, 1987, and grew up in Evergreen, Colorado. He earned a degree in film from New York's School of Visual Arts. Roper revealed on his side channel on November 25, 2015 that he had a rare form of cancer called a sarcoma. In June 2016, he revealed that test results had come back indicating that the cancer had been eradicated.

Roper used his film degree for various careers in television and advertising before starting on YouTube. Roper had been at Google before working with Michael Stevens at Vsauce, as well as hosting a YouTube show called Space Lab, which was a space show for children. In 2012, Roper introduced Vsauce3 to the world.

According to The Daily Dot in 2015, Roper's channel focuses on explanations of the science behind fictional worlds. Roper revealed on March 31, 2017 that he had taken over as the new head of production at Casey Neistat's company Beme. However, CNN halted the Beme News division on January 31, 2018 and announced the 22-person team in CNN on January 31, 2018.

Roper confirmed on September 20, 2018 that he would host Can You Survive the Movies. The show was shortlisted for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category "Outstanding Educational or Informational Series" on May 21, 2020, which it received.
