Early life
McDorman was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Deborah Gale (née Stallings) and John Allen McDorman III. Morgan, his younger brother, and Amanda, his elder half-sister. McDorman studied acting at the Dallas Young Actors Studio and Nancy Chartier's Film and Acting Studio. He attended Richardson High School, Westwood Junior High, and Northwood Hills Elementary in Texas.
Career
McDorman appeared in Fox's Quintuplets from 2004 to 2005, and later appeared on House, CSI: Miami and Cold Case. He made his film debut in 2005's Echoes of Innocence, and later appeared in Aquamarine, All or Nothing, Live Free or Die Hard. McDorman appeared in the ABC Family's teen drama series Greek from 2007 to 2011. In the 2011 Lifetime film The Craigslist Killer, he appeared in the lead role.
McDorman appeared in the short-lived NBC sitcom Are You There, Chelsea? in 2012, he played the male lead opposite Laura Prepon. As Mike Pratt, he later joined the cast of Showtime comedy-drama Shameless. In 2014, he appeared in the film See You in Valhalla opposite Sarah Hyland, and in Clint Eastwood's film American Sniper appeared. McDorman appeared in the male lead role opposite Lio Tipton in ABC's ABC romantic comedy film "Mega Love Story" in 2014. Brian Finch, a young man who uses a nefarious drug called "NZT" to enhance his intelligence to help the FBI investigate cases, appeared on CBS' Limitless in 2015. The television series continued the tale of the motion picture of the same name. After one season, the show was cancelled.
