Early life
Jaime Guzmán was born in Santiago to Jorge Guzmán Reyes, a Catholic University sports director, and Carmen Errázuriz Edwards, who was a travel agent for tourists in Europe. He studied in the Colegio de los Sagrados de Santiago, where he showed an interest in literature and leadership skills from a young age. He began to show an interest in politics early in his senior years. He graduated from high school at the age of 15. He was an outstanding student.
He was accepted to study law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in 1963, only 16 years old, graduating in 1968 with the highest accolades. He was honoured with the Monse Casanueva prize for being the best student in his class.
During his undergraduate years, he founded the Movimiento Gremial Universitario, a conservative political movement that claimed the presidency of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in 1968, while maintaining a virtually unchanged leadership until NAU (Nueva Acción Universitaria), a left-wing group, gained a majority since 2009. The Movimiento Gremial grew quickly through Chile's top universities.
