Global economy crippled by 'digital pandemic': Experts fear IT outage which has grounded planes, closed shops and left the NHS in chaos will last for DAYS - as Mercedes F1 team races to fix issues ahead of Hungarian Grand Prix

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2024
Among those taking extra steps today was the Mercedes F1 team, which since 2019 has been an official partner of CrowdStrike, the US cyber security firm which admitted to being responsible for the error. A team spokesperson said it was working to apply 'the relevant fixes' ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend. It comes after a day of chaos which saw departure boards immediately turn off at airports including Heathrow , Gatwick and Edinburgh on the busiest day for British air travel since before the Covid pandemic.

Microsoft meltdown sparks travel chaos across the UK: Huge queues form at airports with Ryanair flights grounded while trains are also axed as passengers suffer delays across the country

The mass Microsoft outage has sparked chaos around the globe, with TV channels knocked out and banks taken offline. The IT pandemonium has led to huge queues at airports across the UK, with holidaymakers at Gatwick reportedly unable to check in. Meanwhile Britain's biggest train country told passengers to expect delays due to 'widespread IT issues', while Ryanair warned of 'potential disruption'.

Sky News is back on air after global Microsoft outage left it unable to broadcast: Presenters read from sheets of paper as bulletins return to screens but without a clock or rolling news ticker

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2024
Baffled viewers were left with a static message from Sky (right) when they tuned in this morning apologising for the 'disruption' to the service at 6am, when the channel was meant to be on the air. It read: 'We apologise for the interruption to this broadcast. We hope to restore the transmission of Sky News shortly.' Sky returned later in the morning - but the channel was still reeling from the global tech outage, with presenters forced to read from sheets of paper or their phones. And the graphics for the show, alongside its autocue, were still out of action. While elsewhere, presenters were unable to cut to pre-recorded segments of the programme which had originally been placed into today's show.
