Jack Revill, also known as Jackmaster, was born 11 January 1986 in Glasgow.

He is a co-founder of the record label and club night Numbers, as well as Wireblock, Dress 2 Sweat, and Point.One Recordings. He is known for his deep and varied music taste and ability to mix a multitude of genres as well as being one of a handful of examples of a DJ known mostly as a DJ (rather than a producer), as well as Hessle Audio's Ben UFO and Rinse FM's Oneman.

Career

Calum Morton, Revill's closest friend, taught him to DJ. (a.k.a. Spencer (Spencer) began DJing in bars and clubs around Glasgow at the age of 13 and spent the majority of his teenage years, by the time Revill was 17 years old and organizing his own club nights with Spencer.

He started working at Rubadub, Glasgow's world-famous record store, where rather than asking for money he was paid one hour per hour. But after leaving school at 16 he began working full time at Rubadub distribution. Revill was given the nickname Jackmaster in reference to the common term "Jackmaster" coined in the Chicago House of Music in the late 1980s while working at the store.

On local radio station Radio Magnetic with early mentor Claude Young from Detroit, he adopted Jackmaster as his DJ moniker. At the time, he had no DJ name and wanted to use his birth name, but Claude and Spencer advised him to use the word Jackmaster, which stuck.

In 2010, Revill was named 'Breakthrough DJ' at the Best Of British Awards, a magazine that was voted out of service.

Revill was asked by the London clubbing company to mix and curate FabricLive.57 in 2011, after his Numbers label hosted a string of parties at a fabric nightclub in London. The mixture was received with critical acclaim, earning 4.5 out of 5 on Resident Advisor, a 4.5 out of 5.

Revill has appeared at a number of clubs, including fabric, Circo Loco, Output, Trouw, and Sub Club, as well as festivals such as the Glastonbury Festival, Lost Village Festival, Dekmantel, T In The Park, and Dimensions Festival have all performed at various clubs including fabric, Circo Loco at DC10, The Warehouse Project, Output, Berghain, Trouw, and Sub Club, as well as festivals such as The Warehouse Project, Unknown, In The Warehouse, Unknown,

He curated a diverse line of performers, including Moodymann, Joy Orbison, Tale Of Us, Dance Mania, and DJ Slimzee.

Revill was voted "Best DJ" in the DJ Magazine Best of British Awards in December 2014, as well as placing 11th in Resident Advisor's prestigious 'Top 100 DJs of 2014' list, a survey in which he came 5th and 2nd in the following years. In August of the same year, he took up a highly coveted residency slot on BBC Radio 1, alongside other DJs such as Grimes, James Blake, and Bonobo.

Revill was named the SSE Scottish Music Awards Sub Club Electronic Music Award in November 2016. He was named first winner of the new category in the Scottish Music Awards' historic and prestigious collection. Nordoff Robbins, Scotland's sole music therapy charity, was honoured after winning as part of an effort to raise funds for the charity's sole music therapy charity.

In April 2017, Revill was given the Tennents Golden Can Award for Contributions to Scottish Culture, placing him among Scottish figures including author Irvine Welsh, singer Biffy Clyro, and footballer Andy Robertson.
