Early and personal life

In Bombay (present Mumbai), India, Shroff was born as Jaikishan Shroff. His father, Kakubhai Shroff, was Gujarati, but his mother, a Turkman, escaped from Kazakhstan (then the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic under Russian Soviet Union), was arrested during a coup. When a revolution in Kazakhstan broke out, his maternal grandmother and her seven children were able to Ladakh together with her seven children. They migrated to Delhi and then to Mumbai. His father was born into a Gujarati family of merchants and traders. They lost all of their money in the stock market, and his father had to leave home at the age of 17. When both parents were teenagers and married, his father met his mother.

In a few advertisements, including Savage perfumes, he appeared as a youngster. It was one of his classmates in school who gave Shroff the name "Jackie," and filmmaker Subhash Ghai stuck to this name when he premiered him in the film Hero. Shroff regularly revisits his childhood home in Teen Batti.

On June 5th, Shroff married longtime girlfriend Ayesha Dutt, a model who later became a film director, on her birthday. Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited, a media firm, and the couple owns a media firm. They jointly owned 10% of Sony TV from the start of the year until 2012, when they sold their interest and ended their 15-year relationship with Sony TV. They have two children, a son, Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, and a daughter, Krishna Shroff.
