Early life
Cruz was born Jacqueline Chavez, 1986, in Queens, New York. Cruz grew up between Los Angeles, California, and Santiago, Dominican Republic. She was raised by a single mother and speaks fluent English and Spanish. After seeing Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard, Cruz was inspired to become an entertainer at the age of seven. She attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, where she was a student at the school's music academy.
Cruz moved out of her mother's apartment and became homeless at the age of 16. She was 17 when she was in a car crash where she sustained a collapsed lung and went into a coma and required brain surgery. The incident's song "Sweet Sixteen" is based on her experience.
Personal life

Acting career
Cruz first made an appearance on the E! in 2009! Kourtney and Khloé's debut on television. After a meeting in an art class, she and Kourtney Kardashian became friends, which culminated in more appearances on the series. Cruz and Kardashian were caught kissing in one episode, an event that Kardashian later said she was "obnoxious" by. Although Cruz initially said that she and Kardashian were best friends after the incident, Kardashian later revealed that she "would never talk to [Cruz] again."
