Jack O'Halloran (born April 8, 1943) is an American former boxer and actor of Irish origin.

O'Halloran is best known for his appearances in films including Superman, Superman II, Dagon: Troll World Chronicles and Dragnet.

Early life and boxing

O'Halloran was born in Philadelphia and raised by his mother, Mary, and his stepfather, Peter Paul O'Halloran; in his book Family Legacy, he claimed to be the illegitimate son of mafia hitman Albert Anastasia. He lived in Runnemede, New Jersey. Jack O'Halloran, a Boston heavyweight boxing champion, competed from 1966 to 1974. In his first 16 battles, the 6'6" O'Halloran was undefeated.

O'Halloran defeated former title winners Cleveland Williams and Manuel Ramos during his boxing career. Danny McAlinden, who won bronze medal in boxing at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica, and later became the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion. O'Halloran's setbacks included losses to Joe Roman (twice), Joe Bugner, Ron Lyle, and future heavyweight champions George Foreman and Ken Norton.

When O'Halloran was knocked out by Jimmy Summerville in 1973, he was close to winning a match against Muhammad Ali. Ali's chances of defeating him came to an end. Despite the fact that O'Halloran went on to defeat Summerville by K.O., O'Halloran went on to defeat Summerville by a K.O. He was never a serious heavyweight favorite in a rematch with only three more victories and five losses.

O'Halloran has been inducted into the 2009 HOF class by the California Boxing Hall of Fame.

Acting career

With a record of 34-21-2 (17 knockout victories), O'Halloran moved to acting. He appeared in the 1975 film Farewell, My Lovely, starring Robert Mitchum as private eye Philip Marlowe.

My Lovely O'Halloran was offered various roles, some of which he turned down, including the role of Jaws in Richard Kiel's The Spy Who Loved Me.

He did stints as both a feared but mute soldier in Superman (1978) and then released by Superman II (1980) as a stern henchman.

In an interview, O'Halloran said that it was his idea to make Non a childlike character, but that he had a difficult time adapting to his newfound abilities and making sounds in the absence of a voice. Alexander and Ilya Salkind, the makers of the Superman films, were chastised for their mishandling of the franchise, as well as Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane.

In a Starlog Magazine interview in 2006, O'Halloran stated that he and Christopher Reeve did not get along during the development of Superman II. On one occasion, he had Reeve against a wall, but Richard Donner intervened and barred him from striking Reeve. How Did This Come From Here? Later in the evening, he talked about this event. Episode 24.1 of the podcast. Despite the tumultuous clash between them, O'Halloran said his heart went out to Reeve after his 1995 accident, and he thanked him for assisting others with spinal cord injuries.

O'Halloran has appeared in King Kong (1976), March or Die (1977), The Baltimore Bullet (1980), Heroes of the Terror (1988), The Flintstones (1994), and the Dagon Troll World Chronicles (2019).
