Jack Mackenroth (born April 29, 1969) is an American swimmer, model, gay pornographic film actor, and fashion designer who appeared on American reality television show Project Runway's fourth season.
Mackenroth was the first openly HIV-positive contestant in the show's history.
Life
Mackenroth attended the University of California, Berkeley, for the first two years, following in the footsteps of his mother, who was a nurse at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center but later graduated with a double degree in Fine Arts and Sociology.
Career
Mackenroth studied Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design in 1991. Jack opened "Jack" on Bleecker Street in New York City's West Village, after Parsons. Mackenroth began designing for the Levis Slates brand in 1997 and then went to work for Tommy Hilfiger. Weatherproof Active Wear's Design Director from 2003 to 2007.
Mackenroth unveiled a custom-designed wedding gown entirely made of condoms on October 15, 2008, as a visual reminder of the importance of safer sex and correct, consistent condom use for San Francisco's Project Inform.
Mackenroth, a fitness and fashion model from the 1990s, appeared in dozens of publications including Paper, DNR, Men's Health, Men's Journal, Men's Health, Genre, Blue (Australia), and L'Uomo Vogue. Mackenroth was a competitive swimmer in elementary and high school and continued to compete after college at the Masters level. Jack has won three All-American titles, as well as a national record for the breaststroke leg of the 4 x 50 meter relay at the Masters World Championships in Stanford, California, in 2006.
Mackenroth first participated in the Gay Games in 1990 in Vancouver, British Columbia, but a bronze medal in the 50-meter breaststroke was earned. In every one of the international competitions since, he has won at least one gold medal.
At the 2006 Gay Games, his father watched his relay team set the national record.
He competed in the 2009 Outgames, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, and the 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, Germany, where he earned seven medals.
