Jack Bird Career

Playing career

Bird appeared in 2013 and 2014 for the St George Illawarra Dragons' NYC team, scoring 15 points in 37 games and receiving 15 points.

Bird fought for the New South Wales under-20s team against the Queensland under-20s team on May 3, 2014, winning by 30-8 at Penrith Stadium. Bird signed a two-year deal with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks on September 18, 2014, marking his debut in 2015. In the 15-14 loss at Mt Smart Stadium, Bird played for the Junior Kangaroos against the Junior Kiwis on October 18, 2014, playing at center.

In the 2015 NRL Auckland Nines, Bird played for Cronulla-Sutherland between January 31 and February 2015. Bird made his NRL debut for the Cronulla Sharks against the Gold Coast Titans in round 4 of the 2015 NRL season, playing off the interchange bench against Cronulla's 24-22 loss at Shark Park. In his next match against the Sydney Roosters, Bird played at five-eighths for Cronulla-Sutherland, despite the absence of regular five-eighth Ben Barba. Bird scored two tries and set up another in the Sharks' 20–12 victory over the 2013 premiers, causing him to be called back at five-eighth next week, ahead of Barba who was on the interchange bench. In the 2015 City vs Country Origins match against New South Wales City, Bird appeared for New South Wales Country against New South Wales City in the city vs. Country Origins match, winning by a margin of 26-23 at Wagga Wagga. Bird was named Dally M Rookie of the Year on September 28, 2015, after playing in 23 matches and scoring 8 tries for Cronulla.

Bird re-signed with Cronulla-Sutherland on a one-year deal on January 15, 2016. In February 2016, Bird appeared for the Sharks in the 2016 NRL Auckland Nines. Bird played for Country Origin against City Origin, where he was halfback in Tamworth's 44–30 loss.

In Game 2 of the 2016 State of Origin series, Bird played his representative debut for New South Wales, where he filled the void on the interchange bench for Dylan Walker, who shifted to center in the 26-16 loss at Suncorp Stadium. In the Blues' 18–14 victory at ANZ Stadium, Bird appeared in Game 3, where he was also playing off the interchange bench.

In Cronulla's 2016 NRL Grand Final against the Melbourne Storm on October 2, Bird was at center and amazingly played the majority of the match with an elbow injury. Bird continued his good 2016 NRL season by playing in 26 games and scoring 6 tries for Cronulla-Sutherland.

In February 2017, Bird was selected in the Sharks' 2017 NRL Auckland Nines squad. In the 2017 All Stars match, Bird started at center and scoring a try in the 34–8 victory at Hunter Stadium on February 10, 2017, defeating the Indigenous All Stars.

Bird announced on April 13 that it had signed a lucrative four-year contract with the Brisbane Broncos, worth $4 million as a result of 2018. In a 2–1 series loss, Bird participated in all three games off the interchange bench for the Blues in the 2017 State of Origins series. Bird spent his last year with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, playing in 17 games and scoring 3 tries in the 2017 NRL season.

In the 48–8 victory in Port Moresby on September 23, Bird played for Prime Minister's XIII against Papua New Guinea, starting at five-eighth.

When Bird arrived in Brisbane, he had an existing shoulder injury that he suffered at the end of the 2017 season and Broncos coach Wayne Bennett said the Sharks didn't reveal the full extent of his injury prior to his move, and that they wouldn't know he didn't require surgery that would have kept him out for at least Round 4. In round three of the 2018 NRL season, Bird made his club debut against the Wests Tigers earlier than anticipated against Brisbane, playing at center.

After the match, Bird was heavily criticized by NRL fans for being overweight, while Bird said, "I'm fine with my weight," "I do have to lose some body fat, but being injured doesn't help," says Bird. "I'm hoping I can slim down a little bit but I'm feeling good." Bird succumbed to the sternum injury that had plagued him for nine months and ended his season early in Brisbane's 38-24 loss at Suncorp Stadium. Bird will have a horrific 2018 NRL season, with the Broncos only playing in 8 games due to his shoulder and sternum injuries.

In the 22-12 loss at AAMI Park, Bird returned to Brisbane for his return in the 2019 season opener round one match against the Melbourne Storm. Following the game, Bird was getting scathing feedback on social media about his results, despite the fact that it was his first match back from round 10 of the previous season, fans were quick to assess his results based on an early mistake, and he finished with 127 running meters, three tackle breaks, and 11 tackles. Bird was struck hard by Storm winger Suliasi Vunivalu, who coughed up the ball for Curtis Scott to run away and score for Melbourne during the first half. Bird scored his first club play for the Broncos against the St George Illawarra Dragons in Round 3 of the heartbreaking last 24-24 loss at Suncorp Stadium.

During the early rounds, Bird will slowly regained his good form at Cronulla, but in round 9, he sustained a season-end anterior cruciate ligament knee injury. Suncorp Stadium is a broadcaster. Brisbane's 2019 NRL season was cut short, with nine matches and scoring two tries for the Brisbane team.

After suffering an ACL injury in pre-season training, Bird was ruled out for the complete 2020 NRL season on March 11th. "People who know me" have worked to get to the stage I was able to see this season, and with that, I'm truly sad that I'm going to start this process all over again."

After being encouraged by Brisbane to talk to rival clubs, St. George Illawarra announced on Friday that Bird had signed a two-year deal with the club.

In round 1 of the 2021 NRL season, Bird made his junior club St. George Illawarra, where the club lost 32-18 against rivals Cronulla.

In the 2021 NRL season, Bird played a total of 22 games for St. George Illawarra, finishing 11th on the table and missing out on the finals.

In round 23 of the 2022 NRL season, Bird scored two tries for St. George Illawarra in a 46-26 victory over the Gold Coast. In round 24, Bird was suspended for opposition in the clubs' 24-22 victory over the Wests Tigers. In the 2022 NRL season, Bird played 23 games for St. George Illawarra, finishing 10th on the table and missing the finals.
